We want to take a moment to recognize someone truly special at our practice – our incredible Administrative Assistant, Brittany.

Behind every great mental health practice is someone who keeps the wheels turning—and for us, that person is Brittany.

Brittany is the heart of our front office. Whether she's greeting clients with kindness, keeping schedules running smoothly, or juggling a dozen behind-the-scenes tasks, she does it all with grace, empathy, and a steady sense of calm.

She’s the friendly voice on the phone, the organized mind behind our operations, and the supportive presence our team depends on every single day.

We’re endlessly grateful for Brittany and the care she brings—not just to our practice, but to every person who walks through our doors.

Thank you, Brittany, for your dedication, patience and heart. We are so lucky to have you!

Autism’s causes are well-established. An increase in cases is due to a shifting definition rather than a surge in incidence.

Dr. Haver is a wealth of information on this important topic ⬇️ Highly recommend her book, The New Menopause.

🧠 Menopause & Mental Health: What You Need to Know 💡

The menopause transition (MT) affects more than just hormones—it profoundly impacts the brain, mood, and cognition. New research highlights how mental health symptoms often begin earlier than previously recognized and are driven by structural and metabolic brain changes linked to perimenopausal hormone shifts.

🔍 Key Findings:
✅ Mood swings, anxiety, depression & brain fog are common early symptoms of menopause.
✅ The brain undergoes changes in structure, connectivity, metabolism, and inflammation during this transition.
✅ Many OB/GYNs and mental health professionals lack awareness of menopause-related mood disorders, leaving women undertreated.
✅ Evidence-based treatments include:
🔹 Hormone therapy 🩺
🔹 Psychiatric medication 💊
🔹 Psychotherapy 🧑‍⚕️
🔹 Lifestyle changes (nutrition, exercise, stress management) 🏃‍♀️🥗

🚨 The Takeaway:
If you’re experiencing mood changes, anxiety, or cognitive symptoms during perimenopause or menopause, you’re not alone! These symptoms are real, biologically driven, and treatable. It’s time for better recognition, education, and care for women navigating this stage.

Ramous Psychology & Associates

Postdoctoral Position for the 2024-2025 year

POSITION DESCRIPTION: The Postdoctoral position is conceptualized as one consecutive full-time (40hr/week), 12 month position that typically begins and ends at the end of August/early September of the 2024-2025 year. Depending on goals and performance, a postdoctoral trainee may be afforded the opportunity for a second year position or an extension to the first year. The position is designed for recent graduates of a clinical, counseling or school psychology program who are seeking licensure and interested in receiving supervised experience in a group private practice environment.

Under the supervision of licensed psychologists, the postdoctoral trainee provides direct clinical services to clients in the community. This position provides training in the assessment of the full range of neurobehavioral/developmental disorders including attention disorders, autism spectrum disorders, psychological disorders, learning disorders and giftedness. Common clinical populations include learning disabilities, Attention-Deficit/Hyperactivity Disorder, Autism Spectrum Disorder, Anxiety and Mood Disorders. The position also provides training in evidence based psychotherapy treatments to children, adolescents and adults, with the option to specialize in children and adolescents. The majority of referrals come from Family Practice Physicians, Psychiatry, Neurology, as well as other local mental health providers.

At Ramous Psychology & Associates, we are committed to the concept of excellence in training within a multidisciplinary training environment. A postdoctoral trainee will work in close collaboration with Clinicians of the practice and perform many of the same responsibilities. As per regulations by the Pennsylvania State Board of Psychology, the postdoctoral trainee will receive a minimum of 1 hour per week of individual supervision and 1 hour a week of group supervision from licensed psychologists until such time as they become licensed. It is expected that a trainee will pursue and achieve licensure during their training, typically by the end of the first year. Subsequent to the granting of the license, the trainee will continue to receive supervision and oversight by the primary and delegated supervisors.

Compensation for this position will be discussed in more detail during the interview process.
ABOUT US: Ramous Psychology & Associates (RPA) is a private practice providing integrative care to residents of our local community. The practice consists of clinicians from many backgrounds including, clinical and counseling psychology, school psychology, social work and professional counseling. We view our postdoctoral trainees as “doctors in training” on a par with other doctoral health care professionals. Our goal is for trainees to feel technically qualified and professionally prepared for future employment.

BASIC APPLICANT REQUIREMENTS: As noted, the postdoctoral position is a full-time one-year clinical experience, beginning and ending in September. Applicants must have completed a doctoral degree from an American Psychological Association accredited program in one of the health service delivery areas of psychology (for example: clinical, counseling, school, clinical neuropsychology) prior to the program start date. Further, applicants must have completed a pre-doctoral internship.

Applicants should submit a letter of interest outlining their academic and professional interests along with a copy of their curriculum vitae and references.

Interested applicants should send the above materials to: Dr. Courtney Ramous at courtney@ramouspsychology.com

Quick article with a great reminder on the impact of silent treatment. I often find that one partner needs a break from conflict to regulate their emotions. But in order to defend against silent treatment research suggests we let our partner know we need a break but will come back to them. Breaks, when needed to regulate emotions, should be no less than 20-30 minutes and no more than 24 hours. And the key is to let your partner know you will return to them to pick up the discussion.

It was an answer to Freudian analysis: a pragmatic, thought-monitoring approach to treating anxiety, depression and other mental disorders, and it changed psychiatry.
