Ladies & gentlemen, boys & girls, welcoming back to the tiny remuda, Jackies Playgunn… for those of you that have been around awhile, you might remember this mare as “Dale” of the fillies I had, Chip & Dale (they’re photos together are at the end).

Shoutout to for entrusting me to foal her out. And a bigger shoutout for letting me use her in the future to cross with Gunshy 00.

More genetic testing… UC Davis came back with results as follows “Unresolvable-four copies detected. The horse either has one copy of the triplication (G3) OR
two copies of the duplication (G2). Horse will
gray.”

However - I have followed his offspring closely. Which tells me that his genetic copy is N/G3 - meaning 50% of his offspring will gray.

Today, this news… this was a huge win, and a giant relief. Gunshy is 5 panel negative, I’ve known this since I purchased him. But what I didn’t know was if he was a carrier for EJSCA - Equine Juvenile Spinocerebellar Ataxia. HE IS N/N!!! Meaning he does not carry the allele!

In your 30’s, you’ll sell a horse to a police department, without wanting to. In your 30’s you’ll also get a call from the police department years later saying they’re retiring him and ask if you want him back. You’ll call a friend crying because you’re not sure you can actually afford a second horse at the time. It is EXTREMELY IMPORTANT you listen to the friend and bring him back home anyways.
