Video Games what did you play when you were a kid Dad?
I remember the day that I took my oldest son to the video game store. Of course, in those days the stores were completely different; only a few games existed. They seemed miraculous and amazing to both my son and I.
I remember my son asking what video games I played as a kid. Well, I confided to him, the games I played were quite a bit different. The only games available were pinball and pool . My parents were well-known in the community and what I heard them say was that I shouldn't be seen going in and out of a pool hall. Those may not be the exact words but the unspoken words, that I heard.
Today we have video games on our phones, TVs, and computers. These can consume us at times. They are not the real problem. What is the real problem? They consume us, and start to control us. They then begin to demand all of our time and allegiance. They start to take us to places that we don't want to go, consuming all of our time and thoughts.
Of course, these activities seem innocent at first. They grow in us and demand more and more of us. These may be gambling, alcohol, and can take many other forms.
The one I desire to talk about today is the p**n that we find on the Internet. It is readily available. Almost anyone can get around the blocks that we put in place. Libraries and schools, the work place or restaurants. The list can go on and on.
I work more and more with young men that I am at least half a century older than. I see the devastation. It usually starts innocently. Maybe just talking about it with a friend. Looking online, at something that is too explicit or slightly revealing. It then progresses and moves forward as if it has a life of its own; consuming everything in its path. Very quickly the innocent little looks become a sin. (or as the world calls it an addiction). It isolates us and starts to control us. It quickly consumes us to a point where the only thing we are interested in is looking. The looking is the s*xual fantasy world that we see on the web.
