Did you know that MMC has certified pelvic therapists and pregnancy rehabilitation through Women's Health Therapy? Learn more about how the latter service helps with c-section recovery. 👇

April is Cesarean Awareness Month (CAM). A cesarean (or c-section) birth can be a life-saving measure for baby, mom, or both! There is some debate in the medical community about the number of c-sections that are actually necessary aside from emergent needs. This is considered major surgery requiring adequate recovery time, and also comes with a number of possible side effects.

The providers at MMC’s Women’s Health Therapies want women who have had a cesarean delivery to know that there is help and support for your recovery! Pregnancy Rehabilitation Therapist, Kristen Harrington, DPT, PCES explains how therapy helps in this blog post: https://ow.ly/LPZR50YJVF8.

March is ! 💛 Endometriosis occurs when endometrial tissue grows outside of the uterus, often resulting in lesions and nodules that fuse to other organs. A variety of treatments do exist, including surgery and hormonal therapy, but there is no cure nor a guarantee that endometriosis will not return.

😣 The pain caused by endometriosis can be debilitating, and it can lead to bowel or urinary dysfunction, excessive bleeding, painful in*******se, and infertility. Your P*P or OB/GYN can help with a diagnosis, and your care team might include a pelvic therapist to help manage pain!

🔗 Erin Hruska, DPT is a CAPP-Pelvic Certified physical therapist of MMC’s Women’s Health Therapies. Read more in her blog post about how pelvic rehab helps patients with endometriosis: https://www.mmchs.org/news/how-pelvic-therapy-helps-those-affected-by-endometriosis/.

🩵 As January, , winds down, don’t forget that this form of cancer is highly preventable!

🩸 Regular screenings are incredibly important. If you’re experiencing abnormal bleeding, discharge that is watery and/or has a bad odor, heavier or longer menstrual cycles, pelvic pain — any combination of these — consult with a gynecologist or primary care provider ASAP!

💉 Also ask if the HPV vaccine is right for you. More than 9 in 10 cervical cancers are linked to HPV infections. Boys and young men are eligible for this vaccine too!
