A heartfelt thank you to the Pink Ladies Dart League- Park Ave Amusements, Inc. for their incredible generosity! 💗

Through their dart tournaments and poker run, the league raised funds to support our hospice patients. In the photo, Kelly Scott presents two checks to our hospice team members Malinda, Dori, Amanda, and Kayley.

We are deeply grateful to the entire league for their compassion, kindness, and commitment to helping provide comfort and care for those we serve. Your support truly makes a difference in the lives of our patients and families. 💙

This Women’s History Month, Hospice of Crawford County honors four extraordinary women whose vision and compassion helped shape the hospice movement and forever changed how we care for people at the end of life.

✨ Dame Cicely Saunders (1918–2005)
Widely regarded as the founder of the modern hospice movement, Dame Cicely Saunders established St. Christopher’s Hospice in London in 1967. She introduced the groundbreaking concept of “total pain,” recognizing that true care must address not only physical suffering, but also emotional, social, and spiritual needs.

✨ Florence Wald
(1917–2008)
Often called the “Mother of the American Hospice Movement,” Florence Wald was a nurse and former Dean of the Yale School of Nursing. Inspired by Dame Cicely Saunders, she helped bring hospice care to the United States and founded the first hospice in America in Connecticut in 1974.

✨ Elisabeth Kübler-Ross (1926–2004)
A Swiss-American psychiatrist, Dr. Kübler-Ross changed the world’s understanding of grief and dying through her groundbreaking book On Death and Dying. Her work introduced the five stages of grief and helped open conversations about death, compassion, and the emotional needs of patients and families.

💙🦋Sister Mary Ellen Dwyer
(1937-2019)
She was the visionary founder of Hospice of Crawford County. Inspired by the hospice movement and a deep commitment to compassionate care, she helped bring hospice services to our community in 1989 so that patients and families could experience dignity, comfort, and support at the end of life. Her legacy continues today through the care we provide every day.

Because of their courage and vision, hospice care today focuses on dignity, comfort, and compassionate support for patients and their loved ones.

At Hospice of Crawford County, we are proud to continue the legacy these remarkable women. 💙🦋

Please join us in welcoming Amanda, our newest Certified Nursing Assistant, to the Hospice of Crawford County team! 💙

Amanda chose hospice care because she believes it allows her to make a deeper impact on patients and families during some of life’s most challenging moments. Having personally experienced the loss of loved ones, she brings genuine empathy, understanding, and compassion to her role. With five years of experience as an aide, Amanda understands the heart it takes to care for patients, and if she can bring laughter and comfort during difficult times, she gladly will.

She lives by the quote, “Be yourself; everyone else is taken,” believing that authenticity is the foundation for building trust with patients and families.

Fun fact: Amanda enjoys homesteading in her free time!

We are grateful to have Amanda as part of our hospice family and look forward to the kindness and care she will bring to those we serve. 💙
