This project at St. Agatha’s Cemetery in Meadville, is not going to be an instant result. Due to the fact that there is so much soiling embedded into the stone over all these years. So I’d like to give some info on how this process works, especially for these really old monuments and headstones.
The first picture is how it looked before we started.
The middle picture is after an initial wash and scrub with the stone cleaner. We are trying to remove any organic growth, heavy surface soiling and to start drawing out the dirt. We then post treat with the cleaner to start working over time.
The third picture is 24 hours later. You can see how the stone is starting to brighten some. Look at the hands.
We will continue to work on this, using smaller brushes and toothbrushes even, to work on the finer details. Everything we do is to try and not do any damage to the monument. All hand brushes, no power tools and a gentle rinse with the hose. Patience will be the key with this. I’ll keep you updated as we progress.
