Love is in the air!💍✨

We are overjoyed to celebrate our amazing speech therapist, Tori, and her new husband, David! The two first met while Tori was in grad school, and together they love walks, cooking, and spending time with family and friends.

In August, they tied the knot in Tori’s hometown! Tori shared: “It was the BEST day—full of sunshine, love, and our favorite people. Our dog, Carter, even made it into a few photos! The sunflowers in my bouquet and centerpieces were ones David and I grew ourselves!” 🌻💛

September is National Deaf Awareness Month!👂💙

During this month, our goal is to celebrate, learn, and support children who are Deaf or hard of hearing.

Hearing plays a big role in how kids develop speech and language. When a child can’t easily hear sounds, it may be harder for them to:
✨ Learn new words
✨ Understand spoken language
✨ Develop clear speech

With early support, children who are Deaf or hard of hearing can thrive in communication. There are so many ways to support them, whether it is through speech, sign language, hearing technology, or a combination of methods.

As parents and caregivers, the most important thing is to provide connection, access, and encouragement so every child’s voice, spoken or signed, can be heard. 💬🤟

Speech vs. Language 🗣️💬

✨ Speech is how we talk — the sounds we make, how clearly we say words, how smoothly we speak, and how our voice sounds.

✨ Language is what we say and understand — the words we know, how we put them together, how we follow directions, and how we share ideas.

Knowing the difference helps you notice where your child might be struggling. If your child has trouble being understood, that’s more of a speech concern. If they have trouble understanding or expressing ideas, that’s more of a language concern.

Sometimes it’s both—and that’s okay! We are here to partner with families every step of the way.💕

Did you know your child has more than just 5 senses? 👀👂🧠

We’re all familiar with sight, sound, taste, touch, and smell—but in early development, we actually recognize 8 senses!

The other three (and often overlooked) are:
🧘‍♀️ Vestibular – balance & movement
💪 Proprioception – provides information to assist with body awareness
❤️‍🔥 Interoception – internal body signals (like hunger, bathroom needs, or emotions)

These senses help your child:
✔️ Stay calm and focused
✔️ Build coordination and confidence
✔️ Understand what their body needs
