In life, our greatest struggles often become our greatest victories.

At 23, Karthik Jayaraman’s career as a physical therapist took an unexpected turn after a biopsy found a cancerous mass in his neck.

Enduring six months of chemotherapy, 35 radiation sessions and extensive surgery to remove the mass, the treatment was extremely intensive – and very successful.

Karthik’s life has now come full circle. He currently serves as the center manager and ReVital Cancer Rehabilitation physical therapist at Baylor Scott & White Dallas Sammons Cancer Center.

Susan Connor and her family had grown accustomed to the cumbersome job of loading the car with everything she needed before going anywhere. With limited endurance post-spinal surgery, Susan wanted to get stronger before chemo and keep some strength throughout her treatment.

Physical Therapist Kelsey Thompson at our Frisco - Main Street center worked with Susan after spinal surgery and before chemotherapy. While her back surgery helped pain in one leg, she was still suffering nerve pain in the other.

She needed help getting in and out of the car, a walker to go just about anywhere and a chair when she went out that she knew would be comfortable. Kelsey and Susan worked to build strength by playing games like UNO and Connect 4 while standing.

Soon enough, her family was leaving her chair at home, she was walking down the street without her walker and Susan felt confident in herself again.
