Cervical cancer remains one of the most preventable cancers when screening and follow-up care are timely and consistent. Cervical Health Awareness Month is an opportunity to reinforce evidence-based screening guidelines, encourage preventive conversations, and support patients in overcoming barriers to care.

Independent physicians play a critical role in early detection and prevention - whether through routine visits, patient education, or thoughtful follow-up. A simple reminder or check-in can help ensure patients stay current with screenings and understand the importance of preventive care.

At PACN, we continue to support physician-led efforts that promote prevention, early intervention, and long-term patient health.

The first quarter is an ideal time for independent practices to step back and assess performance, workflows, and priorities for the year ahead. Thoughtful review of key performance indicators can help identify trends, uncover opportunities for improvement, and ensure clinical and operational goals remain aligned.

When used strategically, performance reviews and KPI tracking support smarter decision-making without losing sight of what matters most: high-quality patient care. Establishing clarity early in the year helps practices stay proactive, adaptable, and focused as new challenges and opportunities arise.

PACN remains committed to helping independent physicians balance operational insight with clinical excellence.

Healthy Weight Week is a reminder that conversations about weight are most effective when they are rooted in respect, empathy, and individualized care. For many patients, lifestyle goals are shaped by medical history, social factors, and long-standing habits, not simple choices.

Independent physicians are uniquely positioned to guide these discussions with sensitivity, focusing on sustainable behaviors, overall health, and achievable progress rather than numbers alone. Creating a supportive, judgment-free environment helps patients feel heard and more engaged in their care.

At PACN, we support approaches to preventive care that recognize the whole patient and strengthen trust at the center of the physician-patient relationship.

One of the greatest strengths of small, independent practices is the ability to know patients beyond their charts. Personalized preventive care outreach, whether a tailored reminder, a familiar voice on the phone, or a message that reflects a patient’s history, can significantly improve engagement and follow-through.

By leveraging existing relationships and clinical insight, independent practices can make preventive care feel relevant, approachable, and timely. This personalized approach not only supports better outcomes, but also reinforces the trust that sits at the center of patient-physician relationships.

PACN is proud to support care models that keep prevention personal and patient-centered.

As we begin a new year, PACN remains focused on one clear mission: strengthening independent medicine across Pennsylvania. In a healthcare landscape defined by consolidation, complexity, and constant change, independent physicians continue to be essential to patient-centered, community-based care.

In 2026, PACN will continue to support its members by fostering meaningful clinical integration, amplifying physician voices, and expanding the tools and partnerships that help independent practices remain strong, sustainable, and autonomous. Our work is rooted in collaboration, data-driven improvement, and advocacy that reflects the real-world needs of physicians.

Thank you for your leadership, engagement, and commitment to independent care. We look forward to continuing this work together in the year ahead.

EHR data holds powerful insights - especially when it’s used proactively. By analyzing existing clinical data, independent practices can identify care gaps earlier, prioritize outreach, and intervene before small issues become larger clinical challenges.

When leveraged effectively, EHR data supports preventive care, chronic disease management, and quality improvement efforts without adding unnecessary administrative burden. It enables physicians to focus attention where it matters most, strengthening outcomes while improving efficiency across the practice.

At PACN, we continue to emphasize practical, physician-led approaches to data use - ensuring technology works as a support tool, not a distraction, in delivering high-quality care.

It is with deep sadness that we share the passing of Dr. Jack Armstrong of Medical Arts Allergy, who died suddenly at his home on Dec 16.

Dr. Armstrong was a deeply engaged and valued member of the PACN community. He served with distinction as Chair of the Oversight Committee and Chair of the GPO Subcommittee, where his leadership, thoughtfulness, and commitment to independent physicians made a lasting impact on our network.

Beyond his formal roles, Dr. Armstrong was a trusted colleague and advocate whose dedication to patient care and collaborative leadership exemplified the very best of independent medicine.

Our thoughts are with his family, colleagues, staff, and patients during this difficult time. Dr. Armstrong’s contributions to PACN and the broader medical community will not be forgotten.

As National Influenza Vaccination Week comes to a close, PACN recognizes the essential role independent physicians play in protecting their communities. Your efforts to educate patients, address hesitations, and prioritize timely vaccination are key to reducing preventable illness throughout the winter months.

Even as the week wraps up, the need for flu vaccination continues. Your ongoing commitment to promoting preventive care strengthens community health and helps ensure patients - especially those at higher risk - have the protection they need for the months ahead.

Thank you for the leadership you bring to every exam room and every conversation. Your work matters.

The holiday season often disrupts routines, making it harder for patients with chronic conditions to stay on track. Between travel, altered eating patterns, stress, and irregular schedules, many patients need a reminder that consistency still matters...even during busy times.

This time of year offers a valuable opportunity to reinforce simple guidance: maintain medication schedules, prioritize rest, stay hydrated, and reach out early if symptoms change. A brief check-in or supportive conversation can help patients avoid setbacks and feel more confident managing their health through the season.

Independent physicians play a crucial role in helping patients maintain stability when life becomes hectic, and that support can make all the difference.
