Happy Nurses Day!

🎧 In honor of Nurses Day, listen to "The NHP Conversation," a special episode of PAMed Talks where we have an honest and powerful discussion with Karen Allen, RN—retired nurse and Nurses’ Health Program (NHP) Advisory Committee member. In this episode Karen shares her personal recovery story and sheds light on the often-hidden reality of substance use disorder in nursing.

This conversation highlights how the Nurses’ Health Program provides confidential monitoring, advocacy, and support—helping nurses recover, remain accountable, and return to practice.

This Nurses Day, you can also make a difference. Supporting the NHP Assistance Fund helps nurses cover the cost of required toxicology testing while they focus on healing and rebuilding their careers.

This National Nurses Week, is for more education about the disease model of addiction in health care professionals.

The disease model of addiction defines it as a primary, chronic, and progressive brain disorder rather than a moral failure or lack of willpower.

Our Nurses' Health Program strives to educate the public and health professionals on the medical model of substance use disorder, and behavioral concerns including the biopsychosocial and spiritual aspects. To learn more about how you can support your nursing colleagues struggling with substance use disorder, visit foundationpamp.org/nhp.
