SIMMONS, John W, 74 of Mechanicsville, departed this life on February 19, 2026. He was preceded in death by his parents, Lena and Jim Love. He is survived by his wife, Peggy Simmons; his daughter, Julie Bolog (Pete); and his sister, Linda Miller (Rick). John proudly served our country in the United States Air Force and enjoyed spending time with friends at the American Legion Post 175. He loved classic rock music, gardening, his pet cats, and his grand-cats, Dahlia and Oliver. HAYGOOD, John Mitchell “Mitch”- 42 of Henrico, VA went to be with the Lord on Sunday, February 8, 2026, after fighting a lifelong battle with diabetes. Mitchell grew up in Northern Virginia, playing little league baseball and enjoying snowboarding, rollerblading, and motorcycle riding. Special times with his family included trips to beaches, Disney World, parks, zoos, and visiting relatives at the family farm. His current interests were art and music. He was a talented and creative artist.
Mitchell was preceded in death by his grandparents, Raymond “Bill” and Charlotte Werre, Margaret Werre, Betty Joelene Epperley, Margie Haygood, and Fred Ashcraft; and his uncles, Drake Gray, Darrell Bevins, and William Dale Bevins.
He is survived by his parents, John and Vicki Haygood, and Rhonda Bevins Strickland; stepfather, Caleb Strickland (Tracey); his siblings, Daniel Strickland (Nina) and Brianna Strickland Middleton (Zach); his grandparents, Kent and Betty Lunsford, John “Britt” Haygood, W.J. and Barbara Strickland, and Gerry Ashcraft; his aunts and uncles, Lisa Werre Gray, William Galbreath (Candy), Robin Galbreath, Aleric Strickland, Mia Strickland, and Tabitha Strickland Medoza (Eddie); his cousin, Shane Gray (Matt); and his nieces and nephews, Vera, Ella, Braxton, Mila, and Jaxton Strickland, and Chase and Zoey Middleton.

WHITE, Stephanie Lynn, age 51, passed away unexpectedly on February 16, 2026.
She was preceded in death by her loving parents, Betty B. White and Clifton O. White, Sr. She is survived by her three siblings, Cliff White (Deborah), Melony Fuller (Chris Lee), Jeff White (Marie); five beloved nieces and nephews, Kevin Fuller, Morgan Fuller (Kameron Baldacci), Heather White, Randy White (McKenna), and Allison White. Along with a host of extended family members and dear friends who will continue to carry her memory in their hearts.
Stephanie was known for her generous heart, welcoming spirit, and the joy she brought into the lives of those around her. Though she was never married and had no children of her own, she created a home filled with warmth, laughter, and love that extended far beyond traditional definitions of family. Throughout her life, Stephanie opened her doors to friends in times of need and lovingly helped raise the children of those closest to her whenever called upon. She offered not only shelter, but guidance, encouragement, and steady support-becoming a trusted and cherished presence in the lives of many. Her kindness left a lasting imprint on all who were fortunate enough to know her. She had a fun-loving spirit and an ability to bring lightness into even the most ordinary moments. Time spent with her was often marked by laughter, heartfelt conversation, and the simple comfort of being welcomed exactly as you were.

Edith LaVerne Harris Cauthorne, 84, of Glen Allen, VA, peacefully entered the presence of her Lord on Saturday, February 14, 2026. A woman of deep faith and fierce devotion, LaVerne—affectionately known as “My-ya” or “Grandma C”—built a life centered on the family she cherished. She was the cornerstone of her household, offering unwavering support to her parents in their final years and finding her greatest joy in every moment spent with her sons, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren. Beyond her family, she was a woman of unique and vibrant interests. She found beauty in lighthouses and the shore, had a spirited appreciation for '80s hairbands, and always held a special fondness for vintage Trans Ams. Professionally, she was a dedicated Insurance Assistant Underwriter, retiring from Life of Virginia after 28 years of loyal service. She was also a longtime, faithful member of the Church of Christ in Ashland, VA. She is reunited in heaven with her beloved husband, William J. Cauthorne; her parents, James and Virgie Harris; her son, Kevin Cauthorne; and her aunt, Ivery Walton. Her legacy lives on through her sons, Ted (Madalyn), Ricky (Lisa), and Keith Cauthorne; her sister, Catherine Kiiffner; her grandchildren, Andrew (Carrie), Berkley (Catherine), and Bryan; her great-granddaughters, Charlotte and Carter; and nephew, Clifton; nieces, Stephanie and Pam; and numerous other relatives and dear friends. Hostutler, June Carolyn Harrup, 79 of Mechanicsville, VA. passed away peacefully at her home on February 11, 2026, with her family by her side. She was preceded in death by her son, James Glenn “J.G.” Rumbaugh, and grandson Brandon James Peddicord, both of Mechanicsville; her brother, Raymond “Butch” Harrup of Waverly; and sisters Lillian Holdsworth of Disputana and Doris Jean Westbrook of Waverly. She is survived by her husband of 41 years, Clyde Hostutler; daughter, Mikki Rumbaugh, both of Mechanicsville; a stepson, Ronald Hostutler (Lisa) of Onley, Maryland; brother, Ernest “Pike” Harrup of Claremont; sister, Patricia Padgett of Disputana; and numerous nieces and nephews. June worked for many years at Virginia Power before devoting herself to Clyde’s Transfer Inc. She traveled all over the country in service to her husband’s business. She was a devoted part of his team, and they thoroughly enjoyed their time spent together on the road. She was known in the trucking community as “Ms. Clyde”, a woman of strong influence and undocumented authority. June also loved the beach and was a loving wife and mother. She will be greatly missed and her memory forever cherished.

William Louis (Lou) Mercer, 91, went to be with the Lord, Saturday, February 7, 2026, at the home of Sunny and Bob McNally (Ocala, Florida). Lou died of natural causes. He was born on December 25, 1934, in Wilson, North Carolina, the son of the late (Sadie and Doc Mercer). At 18 yrs. of age, Lou moved to Richmond to live with his older brother, Arden(deceased), and his family, where he met Drake Letien. Together they opened the television and radio repair business, Letien and Mercer, in Richmond, Virginia, until his retirement in 2007. As a young man, Lou was a member of the Ray of Hope Pentecostal Holiness Church and later in life was a member of Truth Baptist Church with his wife, the late Barbara Ann Mercer (deceased, 2021). He was a loyal Washington Redskins fan and a dedicated New York Yankees baseball fan. After his retirement, he continued his private photography business, genealogy, coin collecting, and woodworking. Lou volunteered as a judge at the Virginia State Fair for many years, judging the black and white photograph submissions. He was an award-winning horticulturalist of dahlias that he frequently entered in the State Fair. Lou was honored to be a guest on the family cruise of the USS Scranton SSN 756 and a special guest of the Commanding Officer, CAPT Mark McNally of the USS Dwight D. Eisenhower CVN 69, compliments of Bob McNally (retired Navy Master Chief and beloved son-in-law). He is survived by his youngest brother, Joseph Newton Mercer (Destin, FL), his three daughters, Debra Mercer Peterman (Thomas), Sunny McNally (Bob), and Dawn Lambert (Richard); six grandchildren, who lovingly called him “Pop”, Alan Compton, Anne Compton-Brown, Katelyn Wade, Clare San Miguel, Chase Lambert, and Morgan Spivey; six great grandchildren, Luke Compton, Peyton Duda, Elyana Wade, Mariella, Ezra, and Judah San Miguel, and Baby Boy Spivey due this May. “Uncle Lou” is lovingly remembered by numerous nieces and nephews, with special love from Denise Meador and Sharon Howard. Visitation will be held at 12:30 PM, Tuesday, February 17, 2026, at Truth Baptist Church, 8319 Lee-Davis Road, Mechanicsville, VA 23111, with funeral services to follow at 1:00 PM, with Pastor Erik Hastings officiating services. Interment will follow at Signal Hill Memorial Park, 1260 Hanover Courthouse Road, Hanover, VA 23069.

Shortt, Wayne “Butch” Emmett; died February 10, 2026. He is preceded in death by his parents, Minnie Bishop Shortt and Winfrey Robert Shortt; his loving wife of 63 years, Carolyn Crew Shortt; his son, Rick Alan Shortt; and his grandson, Aaron Wesley Shortt. He is survived by his son, Gary Wayne Shortt (Debbie), his daughter-in-law, Kimberlee DeShazo Shortt, his grandchildren, Lindsey Zoeola Shortt and Emmett Wayne Shortt, and several nieces and nephews. Butch was born on January 7, 1940, and was raised in Henrico, VA, where he graduated from Highland Springs High School. He later made his home in King William after marrying the love of his life, Carolyn. There, they raised their two wonderful sons, Gary and Rick. They spent many winters in the woods hunting together and fishing on the Rappahannock River. Butch also loved riding his Harley-Davidson with Carolyn. Together, they traveled to many HOGG rallies and rode to many vacation destinations with friends, including a couple of trips to Sturgis. They also loved spending time with their grandchildren, whom they doted on as often as they could. Butch worked at Ruffin & Payne Inc. as the truss production supervisor for many years, until his retirement. He was a faithful honorary member of the King William Ruritan Club, where he never missed a meeting for nearly 15 years. He also enjoyed playing golf with his friends. Butch will be greatly missed by all who knew him. He was a mild-mannered man with a sweet smile and a loving heart. The family will receive friends from 2 – 3 pm, on Sunday, February 22, 2026, at Monahan Funeral Home, 7300 Creighton Pkwy, Mechanicsville, VA 23111, with a memorial service immediately following at 3:00 pm. She is survived by her loving husband of 42 years, Robert White; her daughter, Cristy Shields (Steven); four grandchildren, Allison Gable, Benjamin, McKenna, and Grant Shields; her brothers, Wayne and John Paul Ney; her sister, Sharon Ney; her niece, Leslie Ney; and her nephew, Brian Ney. KAESTNER, Frank J.- 77 of Mechanicsville, VA, departed this life on Friday, February 6, 2026. He was preceded in death by his parents, William and Rose Kaestner, and his brother, Joe Kaestner. He is survived by his beloved wife of 46 years, Diane W. Kaestner; his daughter, Courtney Kaestner-Baltz (Corey); three grandchildren, Adam Baltz, Alex Kaestner, and Dylan Baltz; his nephews, Sam and Mike Kaestner; and many other relatives, friends, and fellow chimney sweeps all over the world.

Frank proudly served his country in the US Air Force. He was the owner of Neat Sweep Chimney Sweeps and Containers for over 50 years. He trained chimney sweeps all over the world. He was a proud pilot and owned several planes until his medical problems prevented him from flying anymore. He enjoyed swimming in his backyard pool as well as in the ocean. He loved to travel. Frank had a wonderful sense of humor and always had plenty of jokes and stories to share. He was a loving and devoted husband; our rock and sometimes pain-in-the-butt father; and a doting and fun “Papa”. He cherished his family and worked hard to provide for them. He will be greatly missed.

The family will receive friends on Friday, February 13, 2026, from 5 – 8 pm, at Monaghan Funeral Home, 7300 Creighton Parkway, Mechanicsville, VA 23111, with a funeral service to be held at 11 am on Saturday, February 14, 2026. DRAGO, Patricia Anne- passed away peacefully at home on February 7, 2026, at the age of 81.

Born in New York in 1944, she raised her family in Queens and Oceanside. She had a long and successful career as a Financial Advisor with Vanderbilt Financial Group. She moved to Virginia in 2013 to be with her children.

She is preceded in death by her husband, the love of her life, Joseph, and her parents, Tom and Rose.

She will be greatly missed by her children, Justine and Gaetano (Allison); grandchildren, Steven Inforzato (Julieanne), Jacqueline Drago, and Dominic Drago; and great-granddaughter, Olivia Inforzato; as well as her beloved Bassett, Archie.

Patricia loved to be outdoors, whether sitting on the porch watching the birds, camping with her family, or at the beach. She was an amazing baker and cook, loved coffee, and was a bourbon aficionado. She loved crossword puzzles and reading, always the first to have a new David Baldacci or Brad Thor book.

The family will receive friends for a Celebration of Life on Saturday, February 21, 2026, from 5 - 8 PM at Monaghan Funeral Home, 7300 Creighton Parkway, Mechanicsville, VA 23111. In lieu of flowers, please consider a memorial donation to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital.

DUFF, Donald “Stuart” – 85 of Mechanicsville, VA passed away on Tuesday, February 3, 2026. He was preceded in death by his parents, George W. and Inez Turner Duff; and six siblings, Bubba, Jimmy, Pete, Marrian, Faye, and Tootsie. He is survived by his beloved wife of 40 years, Sandra Bishop Duff; two daughters, Tammy Paul (Richard) and Kelley Brooks (Larry); two step-sons, Eugene Bishop and Keith Bishop (Donna); five granddaughters, Sara Parker (Ben), Lauren Barnes (Graham), Emily Butler (Jason), Taylor Ellis (Brody), and Megan Courter (Robbie); five great-grandchildren; his sister, Bobbie Hensley (Lee); and many other relatives and friends.
Stuart proudly served his country in the US Navy. He retired from Cardwell Machine Company after over 30 years of faithful service. He loved woodworking and refurbishing antique cars. He was very talented and there was nothing he couldn’t do and his workmanship was flawless. He enjoyed spending time with his family and trips to Myrtle Beach. He was a loving and devoted husband, father and grandfather and he will be greatly missed. The family will receive friends from 10 am to 12 pm on Wednesday, February 18, 2026, at Monaghan Funeral Home, 7300 Creighton Parkway, Mechanicsville, VA 23111. A private interment will follow at Greenwood Memorial Gardens.
