Taking care of your mind is just as important as taking care of your body.When you’re mentally healthy, your feelings, actions and relationships are in a good place.

You’re able to love, learn, work and enjoy your downtime.

That doesn’t mean things are always rosy. You can have good mental health and still have stress and sadness from time to time. But when you’re mentally healthy, you’re able to cope with the ups and downs of life. And adapting to change comes easier, too.

What can you do to support your mental health on a regular basis?

Be active. Eat right. Get enough sleep. Limit screen time. Make time for mindfulness. Focus on your relationships. To name a few...

Beyond these things that you have control over, be sure to check in with your medical provider about your mental health, along with your physical health. And if you’re feeling the need for more support of your mental health, by all means seek professional help. There are many resources these days for those seeking professional help.

We all know that exercise is important, but what about stretching?

Along with the benefits listed here, there are a whole host of reasons to incorporate stretching into your weekly routine. And use these tips to keep stretching safe and make the most out of it:

Don’t consider stretching a warmup. Warm up your muscles BEFORE you stretch with some light walking or jogging. Or stretch after your workout when your muscles are warm.

Strive for symmetry. Flexibility that is not equal on both sides may be a risk factor for injury.

Focus on major muscle groups – calves, thighs, hips, lower back, neck and shoulders – and be sure to stretch muscles and joints that you use in your regular activity.

Don’t bounce. This can lead to injury or greater muscle tightness.

Hold your stretch. Breathe normally and hold your stretch for 30 seconds.

Keep up with your stretching. You gain the most benefits by stretching 10 minutes at least 3 times per week.

Screens are everywhere! They’re in our homes, bedrooms, offices, vehicle, pockets and purses.

Have you ever considered how much time you or your family members spend on screens? While they can be helpful or entertaining, are they taking over more time in your lives than they should?

Remember that when you are using a device, you are disengaging with something else. Your child or spouse, a friend, exercise, your job, chores or healthy hobbies.

It's a good time to take stock of how much time you’re taking away from things that are good for you. Take a pledge to set down your device, be present in the moment and perhaps find ways to improve your life instead.

Benefits to cutting down on screen time? It can improve your physical health, free up time for fun playing and exploring, allow you to make new (or strengthen existing) social connections, boost your mood, or build community with others.
