We are happy to announce the return of the Fill the Backpack initiative at all Medical Eye Center Locations. We are asking that all patients (or anyone that wants to participate) with an appointment this month bring with them some new school supplies to add to the backpacks we will be giving away at the Healthy Start Block Party Saturday, August 23rd at Phoenix High School. Summer is bringing hot temperatures this week to the Portland metro region. National Weather Service - Portland has issued an Extreme Heat Watch in effect Tuesday, July 15 through Thursday, July 17.

Prolonged heat can increase the risk of heat-related illnesses, primarily for individuals extremely sensitive to heat without access to shade, cooling or hydration.

Tips to help limit heat risk:
• Limit strenuous outdoor activities, especially during the hottest times of the day
• Drink plenty of water and fluids to stay hydrated
• Avoid direct sun and find shade whenever possible
• Use a wet towel or cooling cloth to lower body temperature
• Visit local cooling centers
