Sports Injury Red Flag

Pain that gets worse the longer you play can be a sign of an overuse injury like a stress fracture or tendon inflammation.

This is especially common in:
• runners
• soccer players
• basketball players
• young athletes during growth spurts

If pain improves with rest but returns every time activity starts again, it’s a good idea to get it evaluated before it becomes a bigger injury.
Early treatment can help athletes heal faster and get back to their sport safely.

If you are suffering from foot or ankle pain, make sure to make an appointment with your podiatrist. If you are local, call Southern Oregon Foot & Ankle today!

Many people think a fracture means you won’t be able to walk at all, but that’s not always true.

Some foot fractures still allow limited walking, especially at first.

If you have swelling, bruising, or pain that isn’t improving after a few days, it’s a good idea to get it checked out.

Is your child limping after practice?

Heel pain in kids (especially ages 8–14) is one of the most common sports injuries we see this time of year.

It’s often something called Sever’s disease, which is an irritation of the growth plate in the heel.

Signs to watch for:
• Pain during or after sports
• Limping
• Complaints of tight calves
• Heel pain when you squeeze the sides of the heel

The good news?
It’s very treatable, and kids can usually stay active with the right support, stretching, and shoe recommendations.

If your athlete is pushing through heel pain, don’t ignore it. Early treatment makes recovery so much easier!

Make sure to give Southern Oregon Foot & Ankle a call, if you're local, if your child is dealing with ongoing heel pain. We’re happy to help them get back to the sports they love.

This is one of the most common questions we hear, and the answer might surprise you!

Not all foot surgeries require months of downtime.
Recovery really depends on the type of procedure, your overall health, and how well post-op instructions are followed.

After surgery, many patients are able to:
✔️ Walk in a boot sooner than expected
✔️ Return to daily activities gradually
✔️ Experience less downtime than they feared

Our goal is always to choose the most effective treatment with the smoothest recovery possible.

If foot pain has been holding you back, don’t let fear of the unknown stop you from getting answers

We are always just a phone call away for any questions or concerns you may have.

Every procedure is different, but understanding the general timeline can make the whole process feel less overwhelming.

Foot surgery can sound intimidating, but it’s not something we jump to right away.

The goal is always to start with conservative treatments like orthotics, physical therapy, footwear changes, or injections. But when pain continues to affect daily life or a condition keeps progressing, surgery can be a safe and effective way to finally get lasting relief.

Modern techniques often mean smaller incisions, improved outcomes, and smoother recoveries than many people expect.

You don’t have to live with ongoing foot pain. If something hasn’t been improving, a podiatry visit can help you understand your options and decide what the right next step looks like for you.
