If your heel pain feels worse in winter, you’re not imagining it.

Cold weather can cause the plantar fascia and calf muscles to tighten, increasing tension on the heel. Add in less movement, stiff shoes, and harder surfaces, and plantar fasciitis often flares.

Why winter makes heel pain worse:
• Cold muscles and tendons are less flexible
• Less daily movement = more stiffness
• Unsupportive shoes indoors
• Pushing through pain on cold runs

Early morning heel pain or pain after running is a common sign.

Foot pain isn’t something to “wait out.” Addressing it early can help keep you active all winter.

Make sure to give us a call if your heel pain isn't getting any better.

Cold weather doesn’t just affect the temperature outside…it can impact how your feet feel too.

Winter can increase stiffness and make existing foot pain more noticeable. Keeping your feet warm, stretching daily, and wearing supportive footwear can make a big difference.

If foot pain is slowing you down this season, we’re here to help!

Knowing when to skip a run can actually keep you running longer.

Skip your run if you notice:

• Sharp or stabbing foot or heel pain
• Swelling, redness, or warmth
• Pain that changes how you walk or run
• Pain that worsens the longer you run

Pushing through pain, especially in cold weather, can turn a small issue into a long-term injury.

Rest is part of training.

And if foot or ankle pain keeps coming back, it’s time to get it checked.

If you are sufferening from foot pain, make sure to give us a call to make an appointment. Our goal is to get you back on your feet so you can keep running, or doing whatever it is you love!

Winter running can be great for staying consistent, but it can also be tough on your feet.

Cold temperatures tighten muscles and tendons, and slippery surfaces increase the risk of foot and ankle injuries.

Run smarter this winter:

• Take extra time to warm up
• Choose shoes with good traction and support
• Wear moisture-wicking socks
• Don’t push through heel, arch, or ankle pain

Foot pain isn’t “just part of running.”

If something hurts, your feet may be asking for help.

Make sure to schedule an appointment with us at Southern Oregon Foot & Ankle if you are suffering from foot pain.

If your answer was B...you are correct! Cracking your toes is actually pretty harmless! The popping sound is usually just gas bubbles releasing in the joint fluid.

Pain or swelling with cracking, however, can indicate an underlying joint issue.
