Ozone Therapy

Ozone Therapy Ozone therapy is a safe and effective therapy with numerous proven beneifts. The effects of Ozone therapy are proven, safe, and with minimal or no side effects.

Devin Wilson, ND was trained by Frank Shallenberger, MD and now has over 10 years of clinical experience using ozone therapies to treat a wide variety of health conditions. BRIEF BACKGROUND
Ozone therapy is a novel, safe, and effective therapy that utilizes medical grade oxygen/ozone gas created by an advanced medical device in a certified doctor’s office. Ozone therapy is typically used for its tissue regenerative, immune-supportive, anti-oxidant, anti-inflammatory, anti-septic, and anti-aging properties. Ozone therapy is scientifically valid with hundreds, if not thousands of published research papers supporting its mechanisms of action, biological effects, effectiveness and safety. It is used by medical doctors and naturopathic doctors worldwide due to its numerous therapeutic properties. Ozone therapy has been used in medicine for over 80 years. The first ozone generator was patented in 1896 by Nikola Tesla. During WWI, topical ozone therapy was used by doctors on the battlefields to disinfect and heal wounds. In 2010, the Alvarado and Miramar water treatment plants of San Diego, California, initiated the use of ozone as their primary disinfectant. Today, trained and certified ozone therapy doctors all over the world utilize this therapy to treat a wide range of conditions. Multiple different international organizations of ozone therapy exist (Please visit “Ozone Organizations” page for more information”). In the United States, there is only small number of doctors trained and certified in ozone therapy. WHAT ARE THE BENEFITS OF OZONE THERAPY?

• Reduces chronic inflammation (oxidative stress)
• Supports tissue repair (enhances the release of growth factors)
• Increases cellular energy
• Reduces oxidized LDL (“bad cholesterol”)
• Improves oxygen delivery to cells and circulation
• Up-regulates the antioxidant system
• Modulates the immune system

HOW IS OZONE THERAPY USED? Ozone therapy has many clinical applications and a number of ways to administer it, depending on the health condition to be addressed. It is administered in a number of different ways; the most common is intravenous (IV) ozone which involves removing a volume of the patient’s blood (Typically 50-250 ml) into a sterile container containing an anticoagulant to prevent the blood from clotting. This volume of blood is then treated with ozone and then infused into the patient via an IV drip. Other methods administration include musculoskeletal injections (called P-Zone Therapy which is similar to Prolotherapy and Platelet Rich Plasma), topical applications, and rectal and bladder insufflation. Direct injection of ozone gas into the venous or arterial system is no longer a commonly used technique due to many reported adverse effects. WHAT IS P-ZONE THERAPY? P-Zone Therapy is the combination of prolotherapy and ozone therapy. A small volume of Ozone gas is injected into tendons, ligaments, joint capsules and joint spaces following prolotherapy injections. Ozone therapy further supports tissue repair by improving oxygen delivery to damaged or injured tissues, improving circulation, stimulating a cascade of growth factors including platelet derived growth factor (PDGF), transforming growth factor-b1 (TGF-b1), and vascular endothelial growth factor (VEGF). P-Zone Therapy can be used to address a variety of conditions including, arthritis, osteoarthritis, chronic joint pain, joint instability, spine pain, frozen shoulder and rotator cuff injuries, golfer’s elbow, tennis elbow, degenerative disc disease and others. P-Zone Therapy is especially effective for reducing pain. HOW DOES OZONE THERAPY WORK? Ozone therapy has a wide range of therapeutic uses along with an array of mechanisms of actions. It is thought to exert most of its therapeutic effects by activating various nuclear transcription factors. Nrf2 (nuclear factor erythroid 2 related factor) and ARE (antioxidant response element) reduce NFkB and stimulate the production of numerous antioxidant enzymes including Catalase, SOD, GPx, HO-1, HSP10 and others. NFAT (nuclear factor of activated T cells) and AP-1(activated protein-1) modulate the immune system and reduce cytokine mediated inflammation. HIF-1 (hypoxia inducible factor-1) increases VEGF, EPO and glycolytic enzymes and is implicated in Ozone’s versatility in treating cardiovascular and neurodegenerative diseases. IN WHAT CONDITIONS IS OZONE THERAPY USED? Ozone therapy has a wide range of therapeutic uses. Ozone therapy is typically used for its tissue regenerative, anti-oxidant, immune-supportive, anti-inflammatory, anti-septic and anti-ageing properties. Published research articles have demonstrated positive results in:

• Chronic inflammation
• Fibromyalgia
• Chronic fatigue syndrome
• Peripheral Artery Disease
• Cerebral Vascular Disease
• Intermittent Claudication
• Diabetes and associated complications including ulcers
• Post Stroke (Acute cerebral infarction)
• Chronic viral hepatitis
• Herpes/Shingles outbreak
• Back pain
• Disc herniation (Lumbar and Cervical)
• Multiple sclerosis
• Eye Conditions (age-related macular degeneration, diabetic retinopathy, glaucoma)
• Dental and gum infections
• Canker sores
• And more…

Ozone therapy has also been reportedly used in the treatment of:

• Acute cold/flu
• Environmental and seasonal allergies
• Rheumatoid Arthritis
• Ebola
• Lyme Infection +Co-Infections
• HIV/AIDS
• Cancer
• And more…

IS OZONE THERAPY SAFE? When administered by a certified and trained doctor, ozone therapy is extremely safe. The most common non-serious adverse effects include mild, swelling, bleeding, and bruising at the injection site. The inhalation of ozone gas can lead to airway hyper-reactivity and inflammation which can significantly exacerbate patients with chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD). Similar to other injection therapies, there is a potential risk of infection, light headedness and blood clot. However, using universal safety precautions these risks are significantly reduced, if not completely eliminated. In 1980 the German Medical Society for Ozone Therapy surveyed 644 ozone therapists and found that of 5.5 million ozone treatments of 384,775 patients, the complication rate was 0.000007% (1 in every 137, 500 treatments). During your consultation, Dr. Wilson will discuss ozone therapy with you and decide if it is safe and indicated for you. Dr. Wilson uses universal safety precautions and a well-ventilated exam room to ensure the safety of his patients. HOW MANY TREATMENTS DO I NEED? The number and frequency of treatment varies with the severity of your condition, age and overall health status. The number of total treatments can be up to 20 and the frequency can be as often as three times weekly. Dr. Wilson will perform a thorough evaluation and decide the most appropriate number and frequency of treatments.

Ozone Therapy for Shingles Pain Relief...

Herpes zoster (shingles) is a painful condition caused by reactivation of the chickenpox virus. It often appears as a one-sided blistering rash along a nerve pathway and can lead to severe nerve pain, sleep disruption, and long-term complications such as postherpetic neuralgia (PHN). While standard treatment includes antivirals, steroids, and pain medication, some patients continue to experience significant discomfort or lingering symptoms. Other patient’s just simply prefer a natural approach to treating shingles.

A promising supportive therapy is ozone therapy also called major autohemotherapy (O3-MAHT), where a small amount of a patient’s blood is treated with medical ozone and reinfused. Ozone therapy has been studied for its immune-supportive, anti-inflammatory, and pain-relieving effects.

In a prospective clinical study of patients with acute shingles, those who received ozone autohemotherapy experienced significant improvements in pain scores over time. Compared to the control group, the ozone group showed greater pain reduction at multiple follow-ups (1 week, 1 month, 3 months, and 6 months). Medication use was similar between groups, suggesting ozone therapy may help reduce pain without requiring additional medications. Researchers also found changes in certain blood metabolites after treatment, which may offer insight into how ozone therapy supports recovery.

Bottom line: Ozone therapy is a non-pharmaceutical short-term treatment option that can rapidly reduce shingles-related pain and support healing in acute herpes zoster.

Can Topical Ozone Help Too?
Yes, topical ozone therapy may help shingles heal faster and hurt less!

A small clinical study (60 patients) compared standard shingles treatment (valacyclovir + local laser therapy + mupirocin ointment) to the same plan but replacing mupirocin with topical ozone therapy (daily hydrotherapy + ozonated oil twice daily).

What they found:

1. By day 7, a key skin inflammation marker (“discoid cells”) disappeared in the ozone group
2.Pain scores improved more in the ozone group at multiple time points
3.Overall effectiveness: 100% in the ozone group vs 86.7% in the control group
4. No obvious adverse reactions were reported

Takeaway: Topical ozone therapy may be a safe, effective add-on for relieving shingles pain and shortening recovery time.

In addition to Ozone Therapy, Dr. Devin Wilson also utilizes other natural agents as well as pharmaceutical medications in order to provide a comprehensive and effective treatment plan. Commonly used natural agents to reduce symptoms of shingles include Vitamin C, Vitamin E, oral and injectable B12, and others. One of the most commonly used medications for shingles is Acyclovir.

Shingles (Herpes Zoster) can be brutal...

It often causes a painful, burning rash—and for some people, the nerve pain can linger for months.

Emerging research shows ozone therapy may help reduce shingles pain more quickly.

In a clinical study, patients who received ozone therapy experienced greater pain improvement compared to standard care alone—starting as early as 1 week, with continued improvement at 1, 3, and 6 months.

🛑 Not sure if shingles pain is something you just “have to push through.”
You may have options for support and relief.

Ozone Therapy and Long COVID: Improvement in symptoms, lung function, inflammation, fatigue and more

The aftermath of the COVID pandemic has left millions of people with chronic, systemic and often debilitating symptoms known as Post Acute Sequelae of COVID (PASC) aka “Long COVID”. It is estimated that up to 20 million Americans have had Long COVID.

The cause of Long COVID has yet to be determined and there is no standardized treatment approach.

Ozone therapy has been shown to improve symptoms in those diagnosed with Long COVID. This includes improvements in general symptoms such as fatigue and pain, lung function, and inflammation. Markedly improved cellular immunity and coagulation was also reported.

KEY HIGHLIGHTS:
• Ozone therapy improved symptoms, pulmonary function and performance in 6MWD
• Ozone therapy improved cellular immunity, coagulation and inflammation indicators
• Longer ozone therapy protocol had great therapeutic effects.
• Ozone therapy had no adverse effects
• Ozone therapy reduced Long COVID fatigue and pain

QUOTES FROM PUBLISHED STUDIES:
“Ozone therapy is able to recover normal functionality and to relief pain and discomfort in the form of PASC-associated fatigue in at least 67% of patients suffering from post-COVID sequelae”

“In summary, combining O3-MAH with conventional treatment was more effective than conventional therapy alone in improving symptoms, pulmonary function, inflammation, coagulation, and cellular immunity in patients with PASC.”

“Overall, the potential of O2–O3 therapy to limit and reduce the PASC symptoms is ensured by the multifunctionality of ozone, which can modulate a wide range of PASC manifestations.”
