It’s a long post but I just feel so grateful I had to share! I got to help a few families bring new babies into the world and I just wanted to share a piece of my experience with one that I really connected with along her journey that confirms my passion in what I do.
My first time meeting the family was when mom got admitted at the hospital and they decided on having a doula. she was smiling and so excited! As her labor progressed we shared space where I provided comfort, physically with massages, hip squeezes, head scratches and more; emotionally and mentally with mantras, prayers, encouraging words and just being a space for her to let out her pains in the ways her and her body needed. After a very long labor and an exhausting pushing period she birthed her beautiful baby and couldnt believe herself, the strength, the beauty, the struggles she went through. Her face the moment her baby was put on her chest was the most puriest, silliest, most precious faces I have seen during a birth yet. I got to watch as this beautiful young woman transcended into motherhood, her being was different once she held her daughter and I am so honored I got to experience that alongside her and her growing family. I belong here, doing this work, helping the birthing community.
The adoration I have for each family I get to help grows each time, the bond that’s created after having helped others through this transition into bringing new beings into the world is something I find myself to be so lucky to get to know.
Getting to see this shift in these women as they experience one of the most painful, emotional and exhausting experiences of their lives it feels a little selfish in the way that I love what I do, being able to be that anchor person; it fills my soul with purpose, with truth in who I am. I can’t ever thank those families enough, for trusting me and thank you for allowing me in that intimate space with you.
