❄️ Winter Carnival Update ❄️

We want to share an important update. After conversations with the families on our event planning committee, the decision was made to cancel this year's Winter Carnival.

The committee talked openly about what our community needs right now and made a caring decision rooted in lived experience. We honor and appreciate their leadership.

We know many families were excited for this event and we are sorry for any sadness or disappointment.

We still want to bring joy and warmth to your homes. Instead of the carnival, registered families will receive a cozy night in with pizza, a gingerbread house kit or both.

Please check your email to choose what you would like.

Questions: info@bcoregon.org or (458) 278-0697.

Thank you for being part of such a strong and connected community.

Words matter, especially when we talk about people’s abilities. Hearing the R-word from a public figure this week was a reminder that slurs are never “just words.” This word has a long history of being used to shame, exclude, and dehumanize people with disabilities.

You do not have to fully understand why the R-word is harmful to choose not to use it. If you do not know the history or the impact, that is a chance to learn. Disabled people have been telling us for a long time that this word has been used to bully, isolate, and hurt them. Listening to that lived experience is part of taking care of each other. We are better together when we choose language that treats everyone with dignity.

We can disagree, debate, and push for change without using slurs. Choosing respect protects all of us.

--------

Today we want to take a moment to say how grateful we are for this community. For the families who show up and share their experiences. For the young people who keep us learning and growing. For the caregivers who continue forward, even when things are complicated. And for the partners and volunteers who help make this work possible.

Whether today is a day of rest, a busy day, a quiet day, or just another Thursday, we hope you find small moments of comfort and connection. We are thankful for the trust you place in us and for the strength and diversity of this community.

Better Together,
Bridging Communities

Mejor juntos,
