When we feel valued, connected, and part of a supportive community we experience real health benefits. In fact, people with strong social bonds are 50% more likely to live longer than those without. Here are 5 simple things you can do to build connection:

1. Introduce yourself to your neighbors
2. Join local events
3. Volunteer your time
4. Support local businesses
5. Participate in local government

Every person in the community has something to offer, whether it’s time, resources, perspective, or expertise. When we work together, we create a healthier, stronger, more resilient community.

Immunizations can be stressful, especially for young kids! Here’s a few tips on how to help kids through the process:

1. Talk to them about being brave and remind them of brave things they’ve done.
2. Bring a distraction. It can be videos, toys, songs, whatever works!
3. Let them give you a pretend poke first.
4. Give them an incentive.

We are excited to be participating in this awesome event tomorrow! Here’s how we’ll be pitching in:

- We have providers who will be doing well child checks and sports physicals on a walk-in basis.

- We have staff onsite to assist patients with registration and scheduling with their PCPs.

- We will have Vaccines available and we can provide printouts of immunization records to prepare for back to school and administer any catchups needed.

- We will have our awesome Community Health Workers providing information about RCH and connecting people to available resources.

If any of this sounds helpful to you, we hope to see you there!

Over 50 years ago, Rogue Community Health started as a volunteer-run clinic in Ashland. Then, Ashland Women’s Health Center was located above a candy shop and focused on offering self-care exams and testing for women. Today our scope has expanded, but our mission remains the same; vibrant health for all.

Health + Education = Success

At Rogue Community Health we believe that healthy children are our community’s future and we try to bring our programs directly to your child’s school through our 8 School-based health centers (SBHCs). SBHCs are health clinics embedded in schools that provide physical, behavioral health, and dental prevention services. All enrolled students are eligible to receive these services. Siblings of enrolled students can also be seen for acute care.

A story from Jocelyn, RCH Youth Resource Navigator:

“At a school event, I met a student who needed proper cold-weather clothing, a working cell phone, and standard hygiene items. The shy student struggled to ask for basic necessities such as a change of clothes. Through our social determinants of health funding, we provided the student with a new winter coat, multiple pairs of clothing, a hygiene kit, and a new cell phone. These items bolstered confidence, and now they know that they can count on Rogue Community Health. The new cell phone allows us to easily stay in touch and provides them with additional resources to reach their full potential in school and work.”
