Sign The Good Relations Pledge To Begin Reparations With Native Americans On Indigenous People’s Day

For 20 years, my dear friend Shiloh Sophia has been working with the Indigenous people in her community of creatives to initiate what the US Government should have done years ago- begin the process of restorative justice for the Native Americans that white colonizers have harmed in ways we can never make right. Their feeling is that if our government does not have the moral compass to do what is right, we need a grass roots effort to begin to make apologies and make amends as the guardians of our own moral compasses. She has had parts scared to even try this, because what if we try and it turns out nobody really cares? What if nobody signs the petition? We realized we can’t shame people into caring; we can only invite people into loving bigger.

So, dear ones, if you are of any descent other than Indigenous and you are a US Citizen, I invite you to sign the Good Relations Pledge. If you are Indigenous and reading this, we created this so we could demonstrate with love to you that there are many of us who stand with you.

Read the Good Relations Pledge and sign here (https://www.change.org/p/citizens-of-the-united-states-good-relations-pledge)

If we get enough signatures, Shiloh will be taking this not only to the United Nations, but to each individual Native Nation. We know this is not enough and does not amount to anything close to full reparation. Confessing wrongdoing and expressing our care and apologies is only the first step in restorative or transformative justice and other reparations need to be made. But in this country, we have not enough taken the first step, so let us begin. We also know that reparative actions in the US are painfully late, trailing behind Australia, New Zealand, Canada and other places in the world that are efforting to make meaningful reconciliation with Indigenous peoples.

Before she walked into her future this year, Shiloh’s Indigenous mentor and chosen family Carmen Baraka made the following statement about this Good Relations Pledge.

"Think of what can happen as each family releases that karma, of what was done by our ancestors or just clearing the energy of the land we live on of any negative history. Find out what Natives once lived on your land...they are all in need of our help.

I think it is good to say there is a Native American expression that is widely used in many tribes… Aho Mitakuye Oyasin, meaning we are all related, all connected. With all that has been done to Native Americans, they still believe we are One and through that Oneness, we can heal. I am excited about the possibility of this. I realize this is the beginning and much more thought and action are needed. Love and honor you so much for taking this on… and I know you are the one to do this! Aho!"

Let us honor not only Carmen’s memory, but all that have died, suffering, had land stolen, and been harmed by the effects of colonization, genocide, land theft, white supremacy, and countless other injustices Indigenous people have suffered because too many didn’t care enough.

After many years of being blessed by the wisdom, world view, and medicines imparted to me by many tribes of Indigenous peoples all over the world as part of my research for my book Sacred Medicine, most notably the Crow Native American tribe and the Q’eros Native Peruvian tribe, I cannot express with enough fervor how much I care personally about making reparations for the Indigenous peoples of our world. You will be able to read about the medicines I was given permission to share and my personal experiences with the cosmology of my Indigenous teachers in Sacred Medicine. But for now, suffice it to say that our first attempts at reparations are long overdue, and I sincerely hope you will join me in signing the Good Relations pledge and passing it along on social media.

With prayers for Native Americans on this Indigenous People’s Day,
Lissa
