Fancy recently had her annual eye exam and she passed with flying colors! 👀🐾

Thanks to the American College of Veterinary Ophthalmologists and the amazing team at Bliss Animal Eye Care, Inc., including Dr. Jamie Schorling. Fancy received a free eye exam as part of their annual program. 💛

We’re so grateful for their generosity and dedication to keeping service and support animals like Fancy healthy and thriving.

Say hello to our Canine Angels who came in for the screening eye exam!

Bliss Animal Eye Care joined in again to support the ACVO-SAVES (ACVO®/Epicur Service Animal Volunteer Eye Screening). This is a philanthropic event that provides free, ocular screening eye exams to qualified Service & Working Animals each May. These exams are provided by board-certified members of the American College of Veterinary Ophthalmologists® who choose to participate and volunteer their time and resources. The program benefits formally trained working animals who selflessly care for us all. Approximately 5,000-8,000 eye exams are provided across the United States of America, Canada, Hong Kong, Puerto Rico, Spain, and the United Kingdom each May.

Meet this adorable 8-year-old male neutered Pembroke Welsh Corgi who came to Bliss Animal Eye Care after battling a persistent corneal ulcer for about a month. Despite his primary vet’s best efforts, this little guy’s ulcer wouldn’t heal.

Nonhealing corneal ulcers are commonly seen in middle-aged to older dogs and the entire cornea is affected, even if the ulcer looks small. These require a procedure to heal (Diamond Burr Keratectomy) and we are happy to report he is now healed and back to his playful self! 🐶 Want to know more!? This sweet boy came to see us for a small bump under his right eye. During his exam, we found a soft, hairless mass on his lower eyelid. While eyelid masses are rare in cats, when they do appear, they can be malignant — which is why we always take them seriously.

The good news? The fluid sample we collected was mostly acellular, which strongly suggests that this is a benign cyst. These types of cysts, known as apocrine hidrocystomas, can occur in any breed and are typically non-painful.
