The Creative’s Drama. Ever heard yourself or someone else say you are not creative, artist, musician, dancer, poet, actor….? It’s a pervasive victim attitude in our culture. I wonder how to work with that and support a shift to creator empowerment without rescuing or blaming.

I wish Southern Oregon schools were poised to follow up with a pre-art therapy program. Congrats to my colleague Ryan Arizona State University

For 15 years or so, the Intro to Art Therapy class I taught at SOU was the only UG education in art therapy offered in the entire West Coast. So many students have asked for more pre-art therapy education at SOU over the last two decades. I've offered my expertise and it never goes anywhere. Very little follow through even on a simple email from multiple departments.
Many attempts, zero follow through. Lots of excuses.

If you are a student or former student interested in the field of art therapy and wish you could get a solid foundation for entering graduate studies in art therapy (required to be an art therapist), get a message to the Art Department.

From Hurricane Katrina survivors to Alzheimer's patients, art therapy has proved a powerful form of healing. But because the practice blends both art and psychology, many undergraduate paths to a career in the field require students to pursue psychology first and art second (or vice versa).

Our Pre-Conference course features a full day 7CEU workshop with Oregon art therapist Delaine Due, "Art Therapy-Informed Psychological First Aid: Enhancing Natural Disaster Response." Lunch is included in registration.

We kick off Keynote day with professor and author Joseph Scarce, PhD, ATR-BC, who will present "Art Therapy Disaster Response; Hope, Healing, & Humanity." Book signing to follow! Then choose from an assortment of paper presentation and workshops throughout the day, with 4 break out sessions in the morning, 4 after lunch (on your own), and 4 more in the late afternoon. Networking breaks with refreshments throughout the day. Explore Ashland and reconnect with friends and colleagues over dinner, then join us at the Coburn Art Gallery at Ashland University for the exhibition "Transcending Barriers Beyond Time: Visual Reminiscence of Older Adults with Chronic Illnesses Facilitated by Generative AI," where you can earn an additional CEU with tour of the exhibition and critical dialogue.

The Saturday program features 4 morning break-out sessions (including papers, panels, & workshops), the Ethics Plenary "Centering on Ethics in Supporting Migrants and Survivors of Political Violence," BATA's Annual Membership Meeting and Luncheon, and 6 more break-out sessions throughout the afternoon!

Today in Creative Arts Therapies Philosophies and Theories of Research class I was honored with the sharing of the indigenous art of henna. It’s calming and attentive and smells lovely—like green woody rain.

Great time sharing MOTO and art therapy with high school sculpture class students .art
Their teacher was a student in my art therapy class years and years ago. He graciously volunteered students to make many more than they take to help get closer to the goal of 5,000 MOTOs.
