is a nonprofit, human service agency that provides comprehensive support services to adults with Intellectual Disabilities and their families. The agency was founded in 1970 by parents who wanted supports for their children, and other adults who had similar needs, in their community. Walnut Street Center now provides services to people who live in the communities of Medford, Somerville, Cambridge and Arlington, Massachusetts.

This holiday season, independence looks different for everyone. 🏠✨

For the adults we serve at Walnut Street Center, it might mean preparing their own breakfast in one of our residential homes. Volunteering at a local food pantry. Working on employment skills that lead to meaningful community participation. Or simply making choices about their own daily lives, choices many of us take for granted.

For 55 years, we've been proving that with the right support, every person can live with dignity and purpose in their community. As 2025 comes to a close, we're grateful for supporters who believe in this mission as deeply as we do!

Last month, we had the honor of welcoming Governor Maura Healey, Health and Human Services Secretary Dr. Kiame Mahaniah, and state leadership at the Mystic Community Market for a crucial announcement on fighting hunger in Massachusetts.

Why this visit mattered to our community: Adults with intellectual disabilities are among those most affected by cuts to food assistance programs. At WSC, we know that proper nutrition is fundamental to helping individuals live meaningful, engaged lives in their communities.

This visit highlighted the intersection of disability services and food security. The Governor's commitment to fighting food insecurity directly supports the individuals and families we serve every day!
