Meet Iggy 🐾
Iggy recently stopped by The Cat Hospital of Media because he wasn't feeling his best. His humans noticed some sneezing, congestion, and runny eyes—classic signs of a feline upper respiratory infection (basically a kitty cold).
The good news? Iggy got checked out, started treatment, and is already on the road to feeling better!
Upper respiratory infections are pretty common in cats and can look a lot like a cold in people. If your cat is showing signs like:
• Sneezing
• Runny eyes or nose
• Congestion
• Decreased appetite
…it's always a good idea to have them checked by your vet.
Iggy was a brave little patient and handled his visit like a pro. We're sending him lots of healing purrs while he recovers! 😺

🐘 A baby elephant at the National Zoo recently made headlines for receiving a f***l microbiota transplant (FMT) to treat severe diarrhea.

FMT may sound unusual, but it’s actually a well-studied medical treatment that restores healthy gut bacteria. When an animal has chronic diarrhea or intestinal inflammation, the normal balance of microbes in the gut can become disrupted (called dysbiosis). FMT works by introducing beneficial bacteria from a healthy donor to help re-establish a normal microbiome.

At The Cat Hospital of Media, we’ve been using FMT for years as a treatment option for cats with IBD and chronic enteropathy associated with diarrhea. By restoring a healthier microbial community in the intestines, many cats experience improved stool quality, better digestion, and reduced inflammation.

It’s encouraging to see this therapy gaining attention across species—from cats to elephants—because it highlights how important the gut microbiome is to overall health.

Here’s the Washington Post article about the elephant patient

The National Zoo has been giving its 4-week-old elephant calf Linh Mai daily doses of f***s from another elephant to treat diarrhea, experts said.

The procedure is called a f***l microbiota transplant and has been used successfully in other species. https://wapo.st/4rWN6Dz

“ I don’t like car rides. I don’t like the thermometers. And I definitely don’t like being told “I’m a brave little kitty.”🐱 but even a grumpy cat like me has to admit… the humans over at our vet clinic know what they’re doing. They give the best treats, the gentlest checkups, and they keep me healthy enough to keep judging everyone.

If your cat needs a checkup, take them somewhere they’ll be cared for- even if they complain about it the whole time.
Your cat may be grumpy… but they’ll be in good paws🐾

We always tell our clients how important six-month checkups are… and Dr. Kirnos’s cat Mayday is here to personally supervise hers.

Apparently, she’s also here to make sure no one gets any paperwork done. 📚🐱

Even when they’re feeling great, regular exams help us catch small changes early and keep our cats healthy and happy for years to come.

Mayday takes her job (and her checkups) very seriously. 💙

Responsible Pet Owners Month

February is Responsible Pet Owners Month! While we don’t “own” cats, we do take care of them. There’s no better way to show that you’re a responsible caregiver than to schedule your cat’s annual checkup! Cats are masters at hiding pain and discomfort. We can help detect potential medical issues before they become more difficult to treat. Call us to schedule your cat’s checkup!

🏈🐾 It’s game day!

While you’re enjoying the big game, we’d love to see how your feline friends are celebrating.
Are they cheering from the couch, guarding the snacks, or snoozing through halftime? 😸
