We currently have several therapists accepting new clients.

In Western medicine, the mind and body are often treated separately. Somatic Therapy recognizes the important connection between the two, drawing on practices from Eastern medicine that have been utilized for hundreds of years.

Somatic therapy also recognizes that trauma and negative emotions can become trapped in the body. After experiencing a traumatic event, our nervous system can frequently activate our fight, flight, or freeze responses. This activation causes stress hormones, such as cortisol, to be released, which increases blood sugar and blood pressure. This has a direct impact on our immune system. When our body is subjected to frequent or constant stress, it affects not only our mental health but our physical health. By integrating somatic therapy techniques, we can begin to physically heal and prevent further damage to our health.

Our next Free CE Workshop is with our Webinar Host, Chris Klem.

When examining mental health and dementia, they may seem very different, but both fundamentally involve the brain and can significantly affect daily life. Researchers estimate that by 2060, 42% of Americans over the age of 55 will develop dementia, a sharp increase from the current rate of 10.9%, which is already a significant number. As mental health professionals, we can help reduce risk factors associated with developing dementia, which often begin in early life.

In this 1-hour Webinar, we will begin to unravel the connection that exists between dementia, mental health, and trauma. We will explore overall brain health, brain changes, how mental health conditions impact cognitive changes, and how some psychiatric conditions manifest or change in the presence of dementia.

Chris has spent nearly two decades in the aging field and spent his graduate studies researching dementia and evaluating antemortem clinical presentations with hands-on post-mortem gross anatomy of those diagnosed with Alzheimer's, Lewy Body Dementia, Frontotemporal Dementia, and dementia due to Cerebrovascular Disease. Since his time at The Phoenix Center, his experience has allowed him to incorporate a more trauma-focused and informed approach to his educational workshops.

We are excited to announce a new series: On Becoming a Psychodrama Trainer with Dr. Scott Giacomucci, DSW, LCSW, BCD, CGP, FAAETS, TEP

These workshops are designed to support psychodramatists in the role transition from practitioner to trainer. Becoming a psychodrama trainer is often an intimidating process as it involves developing curriculums, marketing events, managing registration, and building a training group. Beyond practicing psychodrama in our workshops, we must be able to facilitate the processing phase of a session (warm-up, action, sharing, then processing) to articulate to students the connections between theory and practice that inform our directing choices.

These workshops are designed to offer a blend of teaching, peer support, personal growth, and co-creation to support emerging trainers in all the sub-roles of becoming a psychodrama trainer.
