The social psychologist Jonathan Haidt’s book “The Anxious Generation: How the Great Rewiring of Childhood Is Causing an Epidemic of Mental Illness” was a best-seller when it was published two years ago. At first, his work was met with some critical eye-rolling because he seemed, to some, to be a conservative alarmist whining about youths and their screens. But, as the evidence of the harms accumulated from social media skyrocketed, Haidt’s book became, for many, accepted wisdom.
