Relaxed muscles are more receptive to sensory feedback and can provide more accurate proprioceptive information.

Massage can improve proprioceptive information in other ways, too:

Tactile stimulation activates the sensory receptors, as do ROM exercises, increased circulation lead to improved nerve health and function and the increased attention elicited by focused attention on each body part can improve proprioceptive information.

Massage therapy is a great way to improve proprioception.

Some much needed shoulder, head, and neck work for this cute little mare 💗

This mare has been very stiff on her left side lately. Having trouble picking up her left lead and dropping her shoulder going into her barrels. I started by massaging and releasing built up tension in her left shoulder, which seemed to alleviate a good portion of her pain, but continued to work up her neck all the way to her head. The compensation from having limited range of motion in that shoulder was leading to muscle tension and tightness all the way up her neck and into her poll. After this session, Livvy is now back to running and feeling her best!

Some benefits of equine massage:
🦄 Removal of built up lactic acid and metabolic waste
🦄 Increased circulation
🦄 Relief of tension in the muscle tissue
🦄 Increased range of motion

Hello all!
I am here in CDA at the High School Rodeo and will be here all day today, tomorrow, and Sunday morning. I have a table set up with a small banner on it and am located along the fence, next to a Chevy pickup with a camper. I have a sign up sheet at my table with available time slots, I will not be accepting appointments through messages so please come find my table to sign up for a session! It’s best to figure out when you’re up in your events and decide if you want a pre or post-event massage for your horse. If you want a pre-event massage please be very cautious of time as each massage takes 1 hour and then I would add an extra 15 minutes for my palpation and intake questions.
Please keep in mind that I am still a student, currently in school to obtain my license for equine massage. These sessions are FREE! I am educated and have many sessions under my belt already, however this is my first time in an event setting so please bare with me!

There are a lot of mechanical devices marketed towards equine bodywork. Here’s why hands are better:

Fingertips are supremely sensitive to touch, pressure and texture. This is due to a high density of specialized nerve endings called Meissner's corpuscles and Merkel cells, located in the skin of the fingertips. These nerve endings are highly responsive to changes in pressure, texture, temperature and vibrations, allowing us to detect fine details and textures with our fingertips.

Using my hands allows me detect subtle changes in the temperature and texture of the tissue, to feel subtle movements, to adjust speed, pressure and technique as the tissue responds to my work. No device can do that.

Developing feel takes a lot of practice, but is an invaluable skill to massage, myofascial release and bodywork.

Helping horses of all disciplines improve performance and stay sounder and happier longer.

Massage with myofascial release can improve muscle function, joint alignment, self-awareness, mobilize fascia, increase stride length and range of motion, enhance relaxation and improve overall performance and recovery.

The weather is finally warming up and so are the horses ☀️
Maintenance massages are not just for your hard working equine athletes, it can also be for your horses who are now retired and are spending their days out in the pasture. Think about the amount of muscle mass being lost from no longer using their muscles like they once were. Regular massage sessions can improve the longevity and overall health of the soft tissue, therefore making that stiff, broken down muscle tissue strong again and keeping them feeling good! Take care of the old ones that always took care of you 💛

As we start moving out of this cold weather into spring and begin legging up our horses to get them in shape for the up coming season, just remember how hard that can be on their bodies and how the wonderful effects massage can help ease them through that process. 🐴
Being so close to graduation I am trying to gain as much extra hands on experience as I can with as many different horses as I can, that being said I am available for practice sessions until I graduate! If you would like more info, feel free to DM me! 💗
