đź’™ Today is World Day Against Trafficking in Persons

Human trafficking is a form of organized crime that targets the most vulnerable—especially women and children. Victims are exploited through forced labor, sexual exploitation, and other abuses, often hidden in plain sight.

This year’s theme, “Human Trafficking is Organized Crime – End the Exploitation,” is a call to action: We must do more to protect survivors, hold traffickers accountable, and disrupt the systems that allow this injustice to thrive.

Human trafficking can occur anywhere, often in places we pass by every day without realizing it. Victims might be in plain sight, but the signs can be subtle: someone who appears overly controlled, shows signs of physical abuse, seems disoriented, or lacks personal belongings or identification. Truck stops, rest areas, and bus stations are indeed hotspots because they’re transient, busy, and provide easy access for traffickers to move people unnoticed.

Trusting your instincts is key—if something feels off, it’s worth paying attention to. Reporting suspicions to local authorities or a hotline like the National Human Trafficking Hotline (1-888-373-7888 in the US) can make a real difference. Even small observations, like a license plate or a description, could help disrupt a trafficking operation and save someone.
