Words shape expectations. Expectations shape opportunities.

When people are reduced to labels—especially words that are used as insults or shorthand for incompetence—it sends a message that ability equals value. And that message harms everyone.

For people with developmental differences, this happens far too often. When expectations drop, opportunities do too. That’s why the words we choose matter. 💙

We invite you to pause and ask yourself: Would I want to be talked about this way? Small changes in language can create big changes in respect, inclusion, and opportunity.

Let’s choose words that honor all individuals.

The Blue Envelope program supports people with conditions or disabilities that may affect communication or ability to complete verbal tasks during interactions with law enforcement. The program is completely voluntary. Drivers can write down helpful accommodations, such as needing extra time to answer questions.

Life Steps Camp is a summer day program provided by Creative Living Unlimited for individuals with developmental disabilities ages 8 and up. ⛺
