“For wounds received in action.” Those five words can mean so much to service members and to the families who are left behind. In honor of Purple Heart Day, we want to recognize those who lost their lives in combat along with those who carry their wounds every day.
Purple Heart patriots have given their all – for their comrades, for the ones back home, and for our country. While simple words can never be enough to repay their bravery, please join us in thanking these heroes for their service.

Happy Independence Day from Memorial Planning! As we celebrate the founding of our nation, we’d like to recognize the rich history of one the locations in our network, Kirk & Nice Funeral Home and its role in the Revolutionary War.
More than 100 years before it became the Kirk & Nice we know today, Jacob Knorr founded the business as a “joiner” (carpentry) shop in 1761. Jacob was a prominent architect and builder in Philadelphia’s Germantown – and on occasion, he would make custom coffins for locals.
Though business prospered, in 1777, the Battle of Germantown brought the Revolutionary War to Philadelphia’s front door and left hundreds of casualties. After the battle, Jacob rose to the occasion to provide coffins and bury fallen troops in an act that would designate him as the local undertaker.
Today, 58 Continental Army men – America’s first soldiers – are at rest in the historic Upper Burial Ground of Philadelphia. The old joiner shop continued to operate with Knorr carving his way to the future of community service and deathcare.

In honor of Juneteenth, we would like to recognize Dr. Sarah Fraser. Born in Jan. 1850, her childhood home was a major stop on the Underground Railroad where she and her parents helped enslaved African Americans escape to freedom.
According to the Journal of the National Medical Association, even as a child, Sarah helped treat injuries and illnesses that people obtained during their escape. This remarkable work provided a foundation for her future: Sarah’s desire to help others drove her to earn a medical degree and become the fourth African American female physician in the country.
We honor Dr. Sarah Fraser and her remarkable legacy. Her dedication to emancipation, healing, and family are all powerful reminders of what we pay tribute to on this day.
