A recent study published in the Journal of the American Medical Association finds that vision impairment is responsible for 19% of all dementia in older adults. They only tested visual acuity and contrast sensitivity (ability to discriminate similar shades). Imagine if the study had delved into ALL the areas that make up vision!

This is another great example showing what Behavioral Optometrists observe all the time in the young and young at heart: when your vision is working well, it helps us function better in every aspect of our lives, including cognitive processes!

Check out Olympian, Kim Yeji, a sharpshooter from South Korea, with her cool glasses!

Actually, over her left eye is a small black rectangle, a blinder that blocks out one eye and allows greater focus in the other. Over her right eye was a small black circle, actually a relatively common bit of kit that features a mechanical iris to help avoid blurring and allows greater focus on the target.
