Sweetgrass Counseling & Consultation, LLC We aim to provide services to support our clients' life-long success.

Our mission is to provide a continuum of organizational, community, and school-based services that are accessible and responsive to the unique needs of each client. Within our 10 years of professional experience in Memphis, we know the key to providing holistic services is quality partnerships. Our goal with any partnership is to establish collaborative relationships that are effective, mutually beneficial, sustainable, and integrative. Our services are guided by our belief that educating and supporting the whole person throughout their development is critical to their life-long and personal success. Therefore, our services are focused on the following areas:

A comprehensive school counseling program that supports students' academic development, social-emotional development, and college-career readiness. Mental health services that address not only the individual needs of students but also the safety and wellness of all members of the school community. Behavioral supports addressing the preventive and proactive practices necessary to support a positive learning environment for students to maximize academic achievement. Professional Development that includes supporting mental wellness, cultural responsiveness, restorative practices, social-emotional learning, school counseling services, and multi-tiered systems of support for the social, emotional, and behavioral aspects of a school community. Data support and analysis to evaluate the effectiveness of services or programming and feedback for continuous improvement.

🌟 Meet Nakita Odom, LCSW! 🌟

We’re beyond excited to welcome Nakita to the Sweetgrass family!
With nearly two decades of experience (yes, 20 YEARS 👏🏽), Nakita brings serious wisdom, heart, and healing energy into the therapy space. She's trained in EMDR, passionate about trauma recovery, and has worked across behavioral health, forensics, geriatrics, and more.

💻 Offers telehealth + in-person
🧠 Works with teens & adults (Ages 14 - 99)
🌱 Specialties: trauma, anxiety, life transitions, self-worth

Outside the therapy room? She’s either rooting for the Grizzlies, catching flights ✈️, or indulging in some well-earned retail therapy 🛍️.

✊🏾 Black History Month Spotlight: Dr. Mamie Phipps Clark 🧠 👩🏾‍⚕️

Dr. Mamie Phipps Clark (1917–1983) was a psychologist whose work helped end segregation in schools 📚 and exposed how racism affects mental health 🧠. Her famous “doll test” proved that segregation wasn’t just unfair—it deeply harmed Black children’s self-esteem. This research was key in the Brown v. Board of Education case, which struck down school segregation ⚖️.

In 1946, she founded the Northside Center for Child Development 🏥, one of the first mental health clinics for Black children. Her legacy reminds us that racial inequality still affects mental health today 💔—and we must continue fighting for accessible, affirming care for Black youth.
