TennCare shared some great news with me today for the benefit of new mothers covered by TennCare or CoverKids in Tennessee with children under the age of two years old. See Below.

TennCare and CoverKids members under the age of two qualify for up to 100 diapers a month at no cost.

Diapers are available at participating pharmacies across the state of Tennessee. You can find participating pharmacies at TN.gov/TennCare/diapers .

You don't need a prescription simply present your child's pharmacy ID card at the counter. If your child is a newborn without a card, the pharmacy can use the mother's pharmacy ID card or social security number.

Diapers Find a Pharmacy Near You To locate a pharmacy participating in the diaper benefit, please use the button below. The list of participating pharmacies will be updated weekly as the program continues to grow. Please check back for updates as several pharmacies, including several large chain sto...

Hey everyone, this is important information. If you have been diagnosed with diabetes and you have changed your diet, started medication and you are still having problems controlling your blood sugar. You may have latent autoimmune diabetes of adults (LADA). This autoimmune form of diabetes calls for a different treatment which explains your problem controlling your blood sugar.

Unfortunately, for minorities such a diagnosis is late, if at all made due to the known medical care discrepancies and disproportionate (lower level) medical care afforded to minorities. The shameful aspect of this situation is this form of diabetes can be diagnosed with a simple blood test that will find abnormal antibodies in the blood-work.

So in essence, if you have diabetes, you have changed your diet, changed activities, and are on medication but you are still having trouble controlling your blood sugar, then ask your medical provider to check you for "latent autoimmune diabetes of adults" (LADA).

"The condition is often called latent autoimmune diabetes of adults, or LADA for short. Patients with it can be misdiagnosed with Type 2 diabetes and spend months or years trying to manage the wrong condition. As many as 10% of patients diagnosed with Type 2 diabetes might actually have LADA, said Jason Gaglia, an endocrinologist at the Joslin Diabetes Center in Boston."

Be careful, Be safe, Be well; and take control of your medical care, remember "knowledge is Power "......

A wrong diagnosis can make it harder to get appropriate medications and technology to manage blood sugar. Some Black patients wonder if their race plays a role. When Phyllisa Deroze was told she had diabetes in a Fayetteville, North Carolina, emergency department years ago, she was handed pamphlets w...
