Sometimes the behaviors that feel “not normal” or confusing to parents are actually very common autistic traits.
Here are a few examples ⤵️
🔹 Avoiding eye contact → not disrespectful; it helps them stay regulated.
🔹 Repeating phrases (echolalia) → a way of processing language.
🔹 Lining up toys → organizing makes their world feel safe.
🔹 Covering ears → sensory overload, not “being dramatic.”
🔹 Fixating on one topic → deep focus is a strength.
🔹 Difficulty with transitions → not stubbornness, but neurological overwhelm.
These behaviors aren’t wrong — they’re communication. They’re cues. They’re clues.
And understanding them is the first step to supporting your child with confidence and compassion. 💛
