My favorite part of being a postpartum doula💛
I can tidy up, wash your pump parts, bag your milk, or talk about life. Doula life is truly about meeting people right where they are.

Myth! Fl**ge sizes span a wide range from 11-32! The most common size is in the 15-19 range. Have you been properly fitted for the fl**ge size that fits you best?

that first shower after giving birth is on another level.

it’s your first moment alone- truly alone- in over 9 months. your mind is not quite back on earth but you’re achy and tired, leaning on the wall for support as you try to process everything that happened. your belly is sore and still swollen but empty and soft. washing the blood off with herb infused warm water in your peri bottle to avoid scrubbing.

and outside the shower awaits cooling pads, a fresh diaper, and someone to wrap a warm towel around you as you navigate your way back to your sweet baby.

i recently attended a birth and couldn’t help reflecting on this moment as i waited to help a newly postpartum mama out of the shower and into some depends.

do you remember that first shower or bath?

mine was two days after birth. i lost a lot of blood and couldn’t handle standing in the heat long enough to shower but rinsing away my birth and returning to clean sheets and warm pjs and the weight of my son on my chest was the best feeling ever 🧡

*This information is not recent, as the data was collected between the years 2017-2019. Although it’s outdated information, the data is both astounding and devastating. We can still learn from these statistics.*

Between the years 2017-2019, the state of Tennessee had an infant mortality rate of 7.1 infant deaths per 1,000 live births. During that time period, Shelby County had a mortality rate of 9.8 infant deaths per 1,000 live births. Compared to the rest of the United States, these numbers are unsettling.

Fortunately, there are steps we can take to lower the infant mortuary rate in our county.

1. Ensuring pregnant women and their families receive proper prenatal care, check ups, and nutrition education.

2. Protecting infants from common diseases by promoting immunizations on schedule.

3. Encourage and support breastfeeding as it improves the health of both the infant and the mother.

4. Provide education to families regarding safe sleep, cessation of smoking to***co, and proper use of the car seat.

5. Reducing environmental risks such as lead and air pollution, which can cause harm to infants.

Together, we can make this county and city a safer place for our babies. It is my hope that we can provide a hometown where our children can flourish and thrive.

every drop counts!

Breastfeeding is good for baby 👶 and mom 👩! Research shows:

👩 Women who breastfed at some point were less likely to develop heart disease or have a stroke.
👶 Babies who were fed breastmilk, even for a few days, had lower blood pressure as toddlers, giving them a good start to a heart-healthy life!
