Baptist Memorial Health Care

Baptist Memorial Health Care Baptist Memorial Health Care is one of the country’s largest not-for-profit health care systems and the largest provider of Medicaid in the region.

Baptist Memorial comprises 24 affiliate hospitals in Arkansas, Mississippi and Tennessee. Regarded as one of the premier health care systems in the nation, Baptist Memorial Health Care is an award-winning network dedicated to providing compassionate, high-quality care for patients. With 14 affiliate hospitals throughout the Mid-South, Baptist combines convenience with excellence of care — two reasons we have been named among the top health care systems in the country for several years. With the intention of caring for people close to their homes, the Baptist system also offers more than 3,100 affiliated physicians; home, hospice and psychiatric care; minor medical clinics; a network of surgery, rehabilitation and other outpatient centers; and an education system highlighted by the Baptist College of Health Sciences. Since our modest beginning in 1912 with a 150-bed hospital, Baptist has grown to meet the expanding needs of the communities we serve, at one point becoming the largest privately owned hospital in the nation. But what has remained is the same caring atmosphere that inspired our founders. From our kitchen staff and office personnel to our experienced medical staff and renowned clinical services, that pervasive spirit of caring inspires every area of operation at Baptist.

As we continue to celebrate the incredible strength and spirit of breast cancer survivors, we would also like to emphasize the importance of screenings and listening to our bodies!

🩷 Angela McCaleb was first diagnosed with breast cancer in September 2020. Her treatment included bilateral mastectomy, chemotherapy and radiation. Not all heroes wear capes; some wear pink!

During October, we would like to highlight the resilience and perseverance of the incredible Baptist Cancer Center breast cancer survivors who attended the recent Memphis Grizzlies Breast Cancer Awareness Night game.

We look forward to sharing a little about them and their inspiring stories throughout the month.

Today, we honor
🩷 Saprena Hagan — A triple-negative breast cancer survivor diagnosed in 2021. Throughout her journey, she has beaten many odds, not just with her health history, but also in her personal life. She has successfully completed treatment — all while continuing to take care of her adult autistic son. We believe her story is one to share and celebrate. Saprena stresses the importance of early detection and says that self-exam and routine mammograms are much easier and less painful than a fractured sternum.

🩷 Debra Askew — A mother of two children and three grandchildren, she was diagnosed with breast cancer this summer and is just starting her treatments. She is strong and ready to take on chemotherapy and radiation therapy. An advocate for self-care, she encourages women to eat healthy, exercise and get their mammograms because she knows they can help diagnose cancer early!

🩷 Monique Rials — Triple-negative breast cancer survivor diagnosed in 2023 at age 42. She went through a year of chemotherapy and immunotherapy and had a double mastectomy. After discovering the lump in her breast herself, Monique is now an advocate for self-exams and encourages women to trust their instincts and, if something feels abnormal, get it checked out. "Early detection saves lives!"
