If your child is having fewer than 3 bowel movements per week or passing hard, painful, or pellet-like stools, they may be constipated. It’s a common issue, and in most cases, it’s not caused by illness, but by not enough water or fiber in the diet or behavior such as withholding or delaying bathroom time.

Treatment may include:

🍐 Juice or pureed prunes for infants
💊 Stool softeners like MiraLax (under your pediatrician’s guidance)
🧻 Toilet time after meals or at scheduled times of the day (10–15 minutes)
🚼 Taking a break from toilet training if needed
🚰 Increasing water or fiber in the diet

Constipation is treatable, and nothing to be embarrassed about. If you have concerns, we're here to help.

Eczema is a common skin condition that often starts before age 2 and causes dry, inflamed, and very itchy skin. While there’s no cure, a consistent skincare routine can make a big difference.

👶 Watch for red, irritated patches—especially on the cheeks, elbows, knees, and wrists.
🌱 Triggers may include allergens (like pollen or food), soaps, chlorine, or certain fabrics.
🛁 Baths with gentle, fragrance-free cleansers + thick moisturizers (within 3 minutes of drying!) are key.
🧤 Avoid scratching and keep nails trimmed short.
If flare-ups don’t improve with daily moisturizing, or skin looks infected, it’s time to check in with your pediatrician.

Let’s talk about car seat safety! 🚘

The American Academy of Pediatrics recommends that your children stay rear-facing until at least 2 years of age. However, it is often safer to keep them rear-facing as long as possible.

In the event of a car crash, rear-facing seats protect your child’s head, neck, and spine by distributing the force of impact. When forward-facing, the harness restrains the body, but the head can still be thrown forward. This increases the risk of head and neck injuries.

📘 Always follow your car seat’s manual, and when in doubt, we’re here to help!

Is your newborn screaming at all hours with seemingly no reason? You aren’t alone.

The explanation could be colic, a common (but exhausting) part of infancy. Colic often starts around 1-3 weeks old and can last up to 3 months. It usually shows up as:
🕕 Long stretches of evening crying
😢 No obvious cause
👶 A baby who seems fine the rest of the day

So, is there any way to help a baby with colic? Absolutely! Try gentle rocking, swaddling, white noise, and pacifiers if they will take them. Taking care of a baby with colic is a two-person job, so you’ll also want to reach out for support.

Just remember, this season will pass. 💙 If you’re feeling worried or overwhelmed, our pediatricians are here to help guide you through it!

Even during summer break, consistent sleep is essential for children’s health. Research shows that irregular sleep patterns can impact:
🧠 Cognitive function
😌 Emotional regulation
🦴 Physical growth
🩺 Immune system strength

Kids thrive on routine, even when school is out! Maintaining regular sleep and wake-up times (preferably within 30-60 minutes of their school year routine) supports healthier development, better moods, and smoother back-to-school transitions.

Don’t stress if you fall off track for a few days. Vacations, family visits, and holidays happen! A short-term shift won’t derail your child’s rhythm. Just ease back into your routine when you can. 💙

When temperatures rise, so does the risk of heatstroke. Watch for:
- Hot, dry, or damp skin
- Confusion or disorientation
- Rapid breathing or high heart rate
- Not sweating like you’d expect

Heatstroke can escalate fast, but it IS preventable! Make sure you are keeping your children hydrated, taking frequent breaks in a shaded area, dressing them in cotton or linen clothing, and avoiding the peak heat hours as much as possible.

Know the signs of heatstroke so you can keep your children safe! ☀️

We’ve all been there.

One little thing happens and boom, screaming ensues. A dropped snack, the wrong color cup, the fact that bedtime exists…suddenly your toddler is a tiny tornado of emotions.

Here’s the truth. Tantrums are a normal part of development. They are a child’s way of expressing big feelings with a still-developing brain.

🧠 So what causes them?
Frustration from not being understood
Overstimulation or tiredness
Lack of control over their environment
Hunger, stress, or sudden changes
Testing boundaries

✔️ And what can you do as a parent?
Stay calm, even when it’s hard
Acknowledge their feelings
Set clear, consistent limits
Offer simple choices when possible
Know when to ride it out and when to step in

With time and support, your child will develop the tools to handle emotions, and so will you. 😉
