At this year’s Society of NeuroInterventional Surgeons (SNIS) meeting in Nashville, our alumni fellows, current fellows, and faculty came together for a fun, collegial evening—hosted by Semmes Murphey and featuring special guest Julia Landauer, NASCAR champion and keynote speaker at the Women in NeuroIntervention session.

The future of medicine starts here! Thanks to the Stryker Mobile Lab, students from local high schools, colleges, and medical programs spent the day at Semmes Murphey Clinic getting a hands-on introduction to the world of neurosurgery and spine care.

Led by Dr. Sonia Eden, this immersive experience gave students the rare opportunity to test real surgical equipment, simulate procedures, and speak directly with our neurosurgeons and surgical residents about careers in medicine. The goal was to offer exposure and encouragement—opening doors, building connections, and reinforcing that there’s space for them in this field.

This event reflects our mission to invest in education and training—helping inspire and prepare the next generation of leaders in neuroscience.

Congratulations to Dr. Sonia V. Eden for being recognized by Becker’s Spine Review as one of the featured spine speakers at their recent conference, and for being highlighted by the American Medical Association (AMA)!

Through her participation in the AMA Medical Justice in Advocacy Fellowship, Dr. Eden aimed to positively impact her patients and build lasting, meaningful collaborations.

Dr. Sonia Eden is an accomplished neurosurgeon at Semmes Murphey Clinic who dedicates her career to providing excellent care, embodying hope, and bridging the gap of inequalities that existed in the healthcare system.

As a founding member and Vice President of the American Society of Black Neurosurgeons (ASBN), Dr. Eden exemplifies leadership and champions health equity.

According to the Institute of Medicine (IOM), health equity is defined as “providing care that does not vary in quality because of personal characteristics such as gender, ethnicity, geographic location, and socioeconomic status.”
