Class of 2026 Spotlight🩺🧡

Lauren McReynolds

Hometown: Franklin, Tennessee

Undergrad: The University of Tennessee, Knoxville; Kinesiology & Spanish

Why UTHSC?: I love anything UT (Go Vols!), but what really drew me to UTHSC was the small class size and supportive faculty. The program feels personal, hands-on, and genuinely invested in each student.

Why PA?: I love the lifelong learning orientation that being a PA provides and how it supports continued curiosity. The mix of collaboration and autonomy, as well as expanding access to care drew me towards this path.

Clinical Experience: MA at pediatric clinic and CNA at UT Medical Center nephrology floor

Favorite place in Memphis?: Graceland & Flight

Favorite thing to do post-exam?: Sleep, clean, and Babalau

Advice for Pre-PAs?: Figure out your “why” and let it guide you through the process!

Fun Fact: I have run the instagram this whole year (2025)! This is my last post ✌🏻

Undergrad: UCF Health Science

Why UTHSC?: It’s a really great program and the faculty is amazing. This was my first interview and it immediately felt like I was “home!”

Why PA?: As a PA you can make an impact across many different aspects and areas of medicine

Clinical Experience: OB-GYN MA

Favorite place in Memphis?: Hog and Hominy

Favorite thing to do post-exam?: Sculpt class !!

Advice for Pre-PAs?: Stay on top of CASPA requirements! It was really confusing for me at first since every program has a different number of prompts, secondary app, due dates, etc. but I made a list and it really helped me stay calm and organized!

Fun Facts: My last name translates to diamond

Valerie Galloway

Hometown: Signal Mountain, Tennessee

Undergrad: The University of Tennessee, Knoxville; BA in Global Studies, Pre-Med

Why UTHSC?:I chose UTHSC because I’ve always appreciated the value of the UT network and recognized the PA Program’s strong academic, clinical, and professional resources. Having studied at UT Knoxville and worked at UT Medical Center, continuing my training with UT felt like the natural next step in my career.

Why PA?: Learning how timely intervention and modern medicine can reverse vision loss and positively impact a patient’s quality of life inspired me to continue learning about the pathophysiology of these complex conditions at a higher level.

Clinical Experience:I have 5 years of clinical experience, most recently as a COT with UT Neuro-Ophthalmology at UT Medical Center. Along the way, I learned so much from my supervising physician, and it was a privilege to help patients with acute vision loss or other neurological conditions requiring a higher level of care.

Favorite place in Memphis?: My favorite place to be in Memphis is home with my boyfriend and two cats!

Favorite thing to do post-exam?: My favorite thing to do after finishing an exam is relaxing at home and playing video games with my boyfriend.

Advice for Pre-PAs?: The best decision I made for myself as Pre-PA was taking my time in pursuing new experiences that interested me before applying. There’s no rush if you are just competing with yourself, and you’ll come into the Program with a lot of experience that puts you ahead in some ways, both as a student and future provider. Plus, working for a few years and saving your tuition first saves you money in the end, as you’ll take out fewer loans.

Fun Fact: My first world-record skydive was technically while I was in utero with my mom!

Name: Shakara Goodloe

Hometown: Knoxville, TN

Undergrad: University of Tennessee-Kinesiology

Why UTHSC?: I could tell the faculty had a genuine passion for teaching, a strong desire to help others, and commitment to providing students with the best opportunities. UTHSC also offers incredible resources for hands-on clinical experience.

Why PA?: PAs play such an important role in expanding access to care. I also love that the PA profession is built around teamwork and collaboration with others.

Clinical Experience:
Medical Scribe at an orthopedic clinic

What is your favorite place in Memphis?: E&H for a late night burger and live music

Favorite thing to do post-exam?: Eating dinner with my classmates to celebrate being done with another exam!

Advice for pre-PA?: Everything will work out as it’s supposed to! Keep a genuine heart, stay dedicated, and things will fall into place.

Fun Facts: I was on the UTK softball team, and in 2023 we were SEC Champions and competed in the Women’s College World Series🧡

Undergrad: Mississippi State University

Why UTHSC?: I love them small cohort and personal relationships you build with the faculty and students. This program was different in the best way possible!

Why PA?: I love the opportunities that come with being in this field of medicine! The chance to practice different specialities is something that really grasped my attention when first looking at being a PA.

Clinical Experience: I was a medical assistant at a cardiovascular clinic for 2.5 years

Favorite place in Memphis?: Babalu

Favorite thing to do post-exam?: Sleep

Advice for Pre-PAs?: Enjoy your time before school starts! Find something that makes you happy, and make sure to stick to it throughout school - it makes a big difference to prioritize “me-time”!

Undergrad: University of Alabama in Huntsville Biology major

Why UTHSC?: I chose UTHSC because the faculty were so welcoming, and the hands-on learning with cadavers and CHIPS simulations fit into what I was looking for.

Why PA?: I chose the PA profession because I love that you can always collaborate with a doctor when needed, but still have the autonomy to make your own clinical decisions.

Clinical Experience: MRI Tech Assistant

Favorite place in Memphis?: My apartment🤍

Favorite thing to do post-exam?: Binge watch tv shows and movies.

Hometown: Norco, CA

Undergrad: University of La Verne- Kinesiology B.S.

Why UTHSC?: I chose the UTHSC PA program because of its strong emphasis on hands-on clinical training and service to diverse communities. I was drawn to the program’s mission to prepare compassionate, patient-centered providers, and I believe the collaborative learning environment at UTHSC will help me grow into a well-rounded and confident PA!

Why PA?: I chose to be a PA because it combines my love for medicine with flexibility and lifelong learning. Being a PA allows me to provide meaningful care while working in different specialties as well as continuously expand my skills and grow alongside other providers!

Clinical Experience: Emergency medicine scribe at Corona Regional hospital
Medical scribe at Vanderbilt Orthopedic Clinic
Inpatient phlebotomist at Tennova Healthcare

Favorite thing to do post-exam?: I take a nap and try to let my brain catch up!

Advice for pre-PA?: Remember to have fun! Pre-PA life can be intense so don’t forget to laugh through the awkward moments, weird patient encounters, or late-night study marathons! It makes the experience bearable and A LOT more memorable!

Fun Facts: I studied abroad in Italy during undergrad!
I also enjoy fishing, baking, and shopping (especially at HomeGoods) in my free time!
