Chase Hunter

Hometown: Columbia, TN

Undergrad: Wake Forest University- Psychology major with a Chemistry minor

Why UTHSC?: I really enjoyed the small class size and it being the highest ranked program in the state

Why PA?: I enjoy the flexibility and breadth of knowledge that the PA career has to offer!

Clinical Experience: I was a clinical research assistant at Campbell Clinic here in Memphis

What is your favorite place in Memphis?: Mud Island

Favorite thing to do post-exam?: not think about school!

Advice for pre-PA?: Make sure you’re staying on top of all of the different application deadlines and requirements

Fun Facts: I lived in Barcelona for a semester in college!

Kevin Nguyen

Undergrad: UTK - BCMB

Why UTHSC?: The faculty and the student life environment are amazing! I felt welcomed the moment I stepped onto campus and everyone felt like family.

Why PA?: I wanted to learn all there is to medicine. I felt like my personality and how I wanted to care for my future patients aligned with the career.

Clinical Experience: ER Technician and pharmacy technician

What is your favorite place in Memphis?: Young Ave

Favorite thing to do post-exam?: Either Gym or exploring the diverse food culture

Advice for pre-PA?: You are where you need to be. Take your time to figure out what you are passionate about and go for it. Never know if you never try!

Fun Facts: I love to go snorkeling

Undergrad: Union University- Major in chem, Minor in bio

Why UTHSC?: I loved the atmosphere as soon as I stepped foot on campus. Every professor truly cares for you, and they want to help you succeed.

Why PA?: I loved the flexibility that I will have as a PA since we get on the job training. I like knowing that I’m not locked into something for the rest of my life, and I can switch specialities if I so choose!

Clinical Experience: Nursing assistant on an orthopedic surgery floor and medical assistant at a dermatology clinic

What is your favorite place in Memphis?: Green beetle (love those burger Tuesdays 😍)

Favorite thing to do post-exam?: Sleep 💤😴

Advice for pre-PA?: Get your CASPA done early if you can!! Some schools like UTHSC have early admission so get that application in!

Fun Facts: I love to run and plan on running either the St. Jude’s half marathon or marathon in December!

Undergrad: University of Michigan - Dearborn, Masters of Science in Biology, Minor in Psychology

Why UTHSC?: I chose UTHSC for the opportunity to experience a different healthcare landscape, gaining exposure to diverse patient populations and medical practices. Additionally, the program offers a renowned education and vibrant culture, making it an attractive destination for my growth as a person as well as a future provider.

Why PA?: I want to advocate for the importance of comprehensive care for patients from diverse communities through a team based approach to reduce possible biopsychosocial health risks after illness or injury so patients can return to doing what fulfills them.

Clinical Experience: I worked as a medical assistant in Orthopedic Surgery - Sports Medicine and Dermatological - Mohs Micrographic Surgery

What is your favorite place in Memphis?: Shelby Farms Park (Go see the Buffalo!)

Favorite thing to do post-exam?: A long walk or get my nails done

Advice for pre-PA?: Focus on developing strong relationships with mentors in the healthcare field, as their guidance and insights can provide invaluable support during the application process. Also, highlight your personal story and diverse experiences in your application; it can set you apart and show how you will bring a unique perspective to the PA profession.

Fun Facts: My favorite things outside of studying:
- Pilates/exercise and wellness
- Couch rotting to college sports with my cats
- Sushi restaurants
- Traveling and spontaneous adventures with my family, girl friends, and boyfriend

McKiney Wing is my roomie and I played soccer for 19 years before grad school!
