                                            CONFESSIONS OF AN EYE DOCTOR:
Often, some of my patients express to me that they wonder what I am thinking during their eye exam. I am here to tell you!
1. Before I even walk in the exam room, based on pre testing information and the patient’s comments, I usually already know what needs to be done during the exam for a proper outcome.
2. Eye doctors generally prefer a brief summary of what’s going on with their eyes and what they want or need. If more detail is needed, the Dr will ask for more detail.
3. During the prescription check, eye doctors give many choices. “Which is clearer choice 1 or 2” etc, and many patients are concerned if they can’t tell a difference between choices. From the Dr’s perspective, if the choices look the same, it means the Dr is right where he needs to be with the prescription, so it’s a good thing to us doctors. Don’t sweat it!
4. Most eye doctors do NOT prefer you call out the letters phonetically (“Alpha, poppa, sierra, golf”, etc) instead of just calling out the letters (A P S G etc). It bogs down the process.
5. Speaking for myself, I truly care about my patients and their eyes and vision. My goal is to provide the very best eye care in the most efficient, caring and friendly manner as possible.
