MEMPHIS, Tenn. - If you are in need of public housing and missed the last waitlist signup, you have another chance.
The Memphis Housing Authority is opening new Public Housing waitlists for certain communities Aug. 6 through Aug. 7.
“Memphis Housing Authority’s Public Housing program is now accepting applications, offering affordable housing opportunities for individuals and families in need at sites across the county,” said Dexter Washington, chief executive officer at Memphis Housing Authority. “We encourage individuals and families to review the available units to ensure the space meets your needs before applying. That way, we can ensure a smooth and efficient placement process.”
MHA will contact those on waitlists this week until Aug. 1 before the new applications open to confirm if you want to stay on the waitlist.
Those already on MHA waitlists, such as the Housing Choice Voucher (HCV) or Project-Based Voucher (PBV) programs, can apply for Public Housing by using their RentCafe login credentials. If you apply for Public Housing and qualify, you will get housing eventually, which you don't with other housing programs.
You can apply online at https://myportal.memphisha.org/. If you don't have internet, you can go to Benjamin L. Hooks Central Library and Cornelia Crenshaw Memorial Library apply.
