As we celebrate National Disability Employment Awareness Month (NDEAM), we’d like you to meet Greg, who works at Local Lime Tacos & Margaritas in Germantown.

Greg joined the Local Lime team in September and is part of the kitchen crew where his duties include washing dishes and preparing the chips for customers. Greg has been a valuable addition to the Local Lime team, said General Manager Scarlett Stafford.

“Mr. Greg’s been great,” Scarlett said. “He brings a lot of restaurant experience, and he has expanded his duties. He and Ms. Van (Greg’s job coach) have been great to have in the kitchen.

Every October we celebrate NDEAM to recognize the positive impact that people with disabilities have in the workforce. Way to go, Greg!

As we wrap up Direct Support Professional Recognition Week, we want to give a special shoutout to all of our DSPs in Middle Tennessee. SRVS currently operates seven homes and supports 12 people in Middle Tennessee.

“To me, our DSPs are the backbone of the agency,” said Tracey Coffey, SRVS Regional Director-Middle Tennessee. “Without them we couldn’t do what we do. My crew is an awesome crew. They’re flexible and committed to the people we support.”

Thank you to all the DSPs in Middle Tennessee!

Dedicated. Compassionate. Always willing help. Cynthia Green’s commitment to SRVS and the people she supports is unmistakable. Cynthia joined SRVS 25 years ago and in those two decades she’s formed close bonds with the people SRVS supports. To her, they’re like family.

“I treat them like they are my brothers and sisters,” Cynthia said. “They’re awesome.”

As a DSP in our Community Engagement program, Cynthia and her teammates take individuals into the community so they can participate in meaningful, person-centered activities and be part of their communities. Thank you for your years of service to the people we support, Cynthia!

In recognition of Direct Support Professional Week, we’d like you to meet Melissa Redmond, a direct support professional (DSP) in our St. James home.

Melissa joined the SRVS family in 2020 and has served multiple roles including being a Qualified Intellectual Disabilities Professional (QIDP) and a DSP. But working with individuals in our homes is where she’s most comfortable.

“I feel that the homes are where the biggest differences are made,” Melissa said. “I know that the work and effort we make is helping them to a better quality of life. Being a DSP is one of the most gratifying jobs and it humbles me every day.”

Melissa is also the first person at SRVS to complete her DSP 1-3 certification training sessions. Thanks for all you do for the people we support, Melissa!
