As an adoptive mom I have spent too much time mourning the years I missed with my girls. We missed so many of their firsts… food, words, steps, etc.
But then I realized that dwelling on what I’ve already missed won’t help me miss less, in fact, I might end up missing more.
So I focus on all the moments we get to share now, and being grateful for those.
Did you know that kids who eat meals with their families on a regular basis have better health (mentally and physically)? That’s regardless of how “healthy” the food is.
It’s the act of connection that has the significantly positive impact on their health.
And kids who come into your family in unconventional ways (like through adoption, foster care, divorce, etc.) need connection even more than the rest of us — though it’s something every human needs.
Simply prioritizing meals together will help deepen your relationship and set your kids up for success in the future!
As a pediatric dietitian and adoptive mom, I talk a lot about this a lot and on my blog. Give me a follow if you need encouragement from a mom who is right there with you! 💞
