Our May Weekend Warriors are proving that endurance comes in many forms 🏊‍♀️🚴‍♂️

Leigh Anne Otten Timmerman rediscovered her competitive spirit through triathlon after years away from the sport. What started as a personal challenge became a passion rooted in discipline, resilience, and finding balance between training, motherhood, and everyday life.

For local physician Barton Borg Thrasher, cycling became about more than exercise. From long rides to local races, he’s embraced the culture of the sport while pushing himself physically and mentally along the way.

Two incredible Memphis physicians. Two important conversations every woman deserves to have 💙💚

In our May issue, we’re focusing on women’s health and spotlighting local experts who are helping women better understand their bodies, advocate for their health, and move beyond outdated myths and expectations.

From maternal mental health and the emotional realities of postpartum care to fertility misconceptions and reproductive health education, these stories remind us that women’s health is never one size fits all, and that informed + compassionate care matters at every stage.

Kuya is bringing bold Filipino flavor to South Main, blending Manila-inspired bites with Memphis energy through shareable plates and creative cocktails. Founded by Shayne Diaz, the concept is deeply rooted in family recipes. From lumpia to sisig and nostalgic mango-tamarind cocktails, every dish reflects the flavors of her childhood and a desire to introduce Filipino cuisine in a fresh, modern way. By day it’s a cozy, colorful neighborhood spot, and by night it transforms into a lively dance space celebrating local music and culture. As the city’s only Filipino restaurant, Kuya is adding both heart and representation to Memphis’s food scene.
