Yesterday at the annual CPR at the Park outing, our Gold Cross Ambulance team—alongside Appleton International Airport Public Safety and Greenville Fire and First Responders—witnessed something truly special: an emotional reunion as one of our crews (Paramedic Alyssa H. and AEMT Mikayla A.) was reunited with Jim Hansen, a cardiac arrest survivor they helped revive in February of this year.
Back in February, Jim suffered a heart attack near the baggage claim at Appleton International Airport and went into cardiac arrest. Thanks to the quick actions of a bystander who immediately began CPR until responders arrived, Jim’s life was saved.
This reunion is a powerful reminder of why events like CPR at the Park matter. When a cardiac arrest happens, every second counts. The actions taken before EMS arrives—calling 911, starting chest compressions, and using an AED—can mean the difference between life and death.
Hands-Only CPR is simple, effective, and something anyone can learn. Yesterday, while teaching CPR to hundreds of baseball fans, we were able to show firsthand that early bystander CPR truly saves lives.
We are grateful to have celebrated Jim’s second chance at life and to continue empowering our community with the skills that make reunions like this possible. 🚑💙
Events like CPR at the Park would not be possible without the support of the Wisconsin Timber Rattlers, Ascension, and ThedaCare!
