I have POTS. Postural Orthostatic Tachycardia Syndrome, which is a condition that affects the autonomic nervous system and causes your heart rate to spike when you stand up.
One of the most evidence-based ways to manage it is increasing sodium and fluid intake. More salt = more blood volume = less symptoms like dizziness and fainting when you move through the world upright.
So when I say saltwater... I mean it literally!
This is also why I talk so much about the autonomic nervous system with my patients. POTS is a very specific example, but nervous system dysregulation shows up on a spectrum, and a lot of women are living somewhere on it without ever having a name or diagnosis for what they’re feeling.
Sometimes the “too simple” answer is actually just the right one. 🌊
