As you have likely now heard, the United States Government shutdown, which lasted a historic 43 days, came to an end on November 12th.

We are thankful for the end of the shutdown, which allowed funding for SNAP benefits to resume and furloughed employees to receive back payment, but we are still aware that the enhanced Affordable Care Act (ACA) tax credits have not been extended, even with the short-term funding provided until January 30th.

You can help us encourage those in power to reconsider and extend these programs by sharing in the Comments how the loss of these ACA subsidies could impact your healthcare coverage, or how you will be able to afford your medications, and/or remain independent.

You’ve seen Dungarvin Heroes from Minnesota before, but you haven’t seen any of our superstars from Oregon...until now!

The first nomination for is Jessica Fitzpatrick. Known for the way she lives out the Dungarvin mission, “to respect and respond to the choices of people in need of supports,” her empathetic leadership and unwavering commitment to the individuals and staff in her program made her an obvious choice.

As Program Director, Jessica recently oversaw a full remodel of a home, transforming it from plain white walls into a warm, Pacific Northwest–inspired cozy cabin that truly reflects the personalities and preferences of the people who call it home. Her attention to detail and focus on comfort demonstrate how deeply she values individual choice and dignity.

The Dungarvin Connecticut team recently gathered to celebrate the Milestone anniversaries of several team members — all who’ve been with the organization for 10 years. The event took place at Serafino’s Restaurant in Wallingford, where the group enjoyed camaraderie and delicious Italian cuisine.

“Our Milestone event is a tribute to the incredible staff whose dedication has impacted the lives of the individuals we support,” said Connecticut State Director Robert Gallant.

Karl Moore, a Dungarvin Direct Support Professional (DSP) and Program Coordinator in Portland, Oregon, received a ‘Works of Heart Award’ this week from the Oregon Resource Association (ORA).

Karl was one of 20 DSPs – chosen out of 100 – to receive the annual award during the ORA Northwest Conference. It recognizes DSPs who make an extraordinary contribution to supporting people with disabilities to lead and live their best lives.
