How many of you remember Peggy Porter, one of our inductees? 🌟

Peggy has a very special place in our collective Dungarvin’s hearts. She is also the inspiration behind Dungarvin Ohio’s yearly participation in the Mid-Ohio Food Collective. Sadly, Peggy passed away in December of 2006 trying to save the lives of the individuals she supported. “We give our time because she gave it all,” State Director Lisa Fannin explained.

Hours later, after lots of hard work and inspiration from Peggy, they helped create hundreds of boxes that will feed many elderly citizens in the central Ohio area. The team wanted to share their experience to encourage others to give back to their communities in any way they are able to!

We’re so proud of our Ohio colleagues for making an impact on the lives of others.

“ is a reminder of the vital roles women have played that shape our culture, history, and our society,” shared Ananeika Gordon, Behavior Supports Specialist for Dungarvin.

She wishes to spotlight her colleague, Vanessa Ponds (pictured here), whom she believes is a beautiful soul. “She serves her clients gracefully, encouraging smiles and laughs while completing their daily curriculum. She’s taught me that we are all created to serve one another, and we should do it with a spirit of excellency.”

Vanessa and Ananeika are just two of the incredible women working with us. We consider it a joy to celebrate them and all of the other women with whom we have the privilege of working.

👉 “What a privilege to have lived a life that was guided by incredible women,” gushed Isabella, Dungarvin’s Social Media Specialist.

In light of , she highlights three women who have made a lasting impact on her life, including her mother, grandmother, and friend Julia.

“I’ve witnessed resilience, patience, love without judgement, and steadfast faith through their actions and words. My grandmother shows me how to be invested in others and intentional with my words and prayer. My mother shows me how to lead with confidence and love with humility. Julia shows me what tenacity in hardship looks like. I genuinely would not be the woman I am today without them.”

Thank you to the women that have helped shape our colleague, Isabella!

Individuals in Colorado took a “Night to Shine” last month! ✨

A local church hosted a prom night for some persons in need of support. Dungarvin staff helped the ladies prepare, and everyone rode to the event in style, in a limousine.

This was one of hundreds of events that happened across the nation and the world! We’re so glad they got to have this experience.

Did you or someone you know attend another of these events? Let us know in the comments!

What is the purpose of Developmental Disability Awareness Month?

For Dungarvin, it represents an opportunity to shine a light on the individuals we support. It is an unfortunate reality that many of the people who count on Dungarvin for its services can feel isolated and/or not included in their own communities. is about empowerment and supporting those we support for all their many ABILITIES.

ANCOR, a leading advocate for the critical role service providers play in enriching the lives of people with intellectual and/or developmental disabilities (I/DD), recently shared a toolkit that serves as an excellent starting point for ways that you can be educated on the importance of this month. It was created by the NACCD (National Association of Councils on Developmental Disabilities), and now we want to share it with you!
