CHEMICAL DEPENDENCY COUNSELOR JOB DESCRIPTION

-Job Title: CD Counselor 1
-Location: Bloomington
-Work Schedule: Mon-Fr days or some PM options.
-Pay starts at $56,700 DOQ
-Position Classification: Exempt (Full-time). Benefit entitlements.

I. CD Counselor Job Summary:

Counselors provide critical and direct client therapeutic counseling and assessment services. They provide daily supervision of clients and coordinate clinical services. Flexibility and effective time management practices are a must. Counselors require self-confidence, creativity, and the ability to exercise individual discretion or judgment.

Sound organizational skills and the ability to handle multiple tasks are a must. S/he must ensure sessions are complete, positive, and reinforcing to clients, support agencies, and the community. S/he must be able to dissolve and resolve conflict with staff and within the client structure. S/he must possess a high level of crisis tolerance, and the ability to work through crises in a professional, therapeutic, and positive manner.

II. CD Counselor Duties & Responsibilities:

Conduct screening and intake interviews with potential clients.
Complete the required documents for admission to the program.
Describe program guidelines and expectations for clients.
Complete appropriate assessments and develop a diagnostic evaluation.
Work with clients to identify and evaluate their strengths, needs, and abilities.
Work with clients to establish immediate and long-term treatment goals.
Collect urinalysis samples and perform breath analysis tests for clients.
On-call coverage rotation when filling in for weekend clinicians.

IV. CD Counselor Qualifications:

CD license in the state of MN.

4-yr. degree in CD Counseling or related field, or equivalent training and experience preferred.

Must have completed or obtained 12 hours of training in co-occurring mental health problems and substance use disorder.

Must be able to pass DHS Rule 11 background check.
