Meet your sushi chef!
I'm Käri, I'm originally from Thailand and didn't discover sushi until the golden age of 18. The moment I tasted it, I became obsessed. Sushi has always been a part of my life.
When I was going through school to get my doctorate, sushi was there to get me through those long nights of studying.
When I joined the military and missed home, sushi was there to enjoy with new friends and other servicemembers.
When I was traveling the world and finding cures for diseases, sushi was scarce in some places...but when it was there, it never failed to satisfy my soul.
After years of enjoying other experiences, jobs and hobbies, I realised my firey passion for sushi. I was sitting at my desk one day, working long hours in medical research and something hit me. I could be a Sushi Chef. Why not? I immediately applied and got accepted into Tokyo Sushi Academy in Tokyo, Japan and am awaiting a class date, due to COVID restrictions.
I'm very open to the fact that I'm female and how that presents a challenge on its own, as traditionally it is a male dominated industry. I respect the Japanese culture and traditions greatly and I never wish to bring dishonour or disrespect. I simply want to create a wonderful sushi experience for people and share my passion with others. Many people will question my choice and wonder if it's going to work out in the end. However, in life, I have always been a trailblazer; making my own ideas and setting out on paths untraveled. Here and now, this is no different. I'm ready to learn and ready to try something new. I'm ready to change the world.
I hope you are too.
Semper Sushi.
