Welcoming you back with gratitude and healing hands.

We’re Open! We’re happy to share that Menomonie Therapeutic Massage is open and ready to welcome you.

After airing out the building yesterday, there’s still a slight campfire scent in the air today, but rest assured, the space is safe, clean, and peaceful.
We’ve felt the love and concern from so many of you following the recent downtown fire. Thank you for checking in, sending well wishes, and continuing to support us—and our neighboring small businesses—as we navigate this together. You mean the world to us.

Parking Is Free – But Plan Ahead!

Good news: Downtown parking is free through August 27th!
Some street parking may be limited while recovery work continues, so please plan a little extra time for your visit. We appreciate your patience and understanding as the downtown area heals.

Anatomy Corner: Glute Muscles

This month, we’re highlighting the gluteal muscle group – your body’s built-in powerhouse! The glutes consist of three muscles: gluteus maximus, gluteus medius, and gluteus minimus.

Fun Fact: The gluteus maximus is the largest and most powerful muscle in your body – it plays a major role in posture and movement!

Function: These muscles help you perform everyday actions like standing up, walking, climbing stairs, and even balancing on one leg. They're also crucial for hip extension, rotation, and stabilization of the pelvis.

Dysfunction Can Feel Like:
Low back or hip pain
Tight hamstrings
Poor posture
Trouble with balance or walking uphill

Simple Glute Stretches for All Ages:

Seated Figure-Four Stretch – Sit on a chair, place one ankle over the opposite knee, and gently lean forward to stretch the glute.

Standing Glute Stretch – While standing, cross one ankle over the opposite knee and sit back like you're lowering into a chair. Hold onto a wall or counter for support.

Lying Glute Stretch – Lie on your back, pull one knee across your body toward the opposite shoulder. Hold gently and breathe deeply.

Massage therapy works wonders to release these deep muscles and restore healthy movement.

🧠 Anatomy Corner: The Trapezius Muscle

This week, let’s take a closer look at the trapezius muscle—a key player in your neck and upper back’s health.

Origin & Insertion:

In simple terms, the trapezius muscle originates at the base of your skull and extends along the back of your neck and shoulders. It inserts on the top of your shoulder and the upper part of your spine.

Functions & Movements:

The trapezius helps with a variety of motions like shoulder shrugging, neck turning, and upper back movements. It’s essential for stabilizing your shoulders and supporting your neck, especially when carrying weight.

What The Trapezius Does:

This muscle plays a vital role in your posture, helping you maintain an upright position. It can also help relieve tension in the neck and shoulders.

We’ve also included a targeted stretch video to help you release tightness in the trapezius area.

At Menomonie Therapeutic Massage, we believe that understanding your body can lead to better health and wellness. With that in mind, this month we're shining a spotlight on the rotator cuff! Comprised of four essential muscles, the rotator cuff plays a crucial role in shoulder stability and movement. If you’ve ever dealt with a rotator cuff injury, you know it can be quite painful and limiting. In our latest article, we delve into each muscle's function, and effective therapeutic movements to promote healing and recovery. Whether you're a seasoned athlete or simply want to understand your body better, we invite you to explore this vital topic with us!

The four muscles of the rotator cuff:

Supraspinatus: Abducts the arm, or moves it away from the body

Infraspinatus: An external rotator of the shoulder, pulls the shoulder back

Teres minor: An external rotator of the shoulder, helps baseball pitchers throw the ball

Subscapularis: An internal rotator of the shoulder, used when turning a doorknob

Movements for the rotator cuff:

You can sit or stand for this one:
Place hand on shoulders, bend sideways to the left side and then to the right side, back and forth several times.

The exercise I shared last month is excellent when stretching the rotator cuff:

Sit or stand:
Place hands on shoulders and rotate shoulders one way and then the other. Placing the hands on the shoulders allows you to get more range of motion in the shoulder blade.

Thank you for allowing Menomonie Therapeutic Massage to be a part of your healing journey. We’re excited to share valuable health and wellness products and services with you in the coming year, and we would love for you to share this email with anyone who may benefit. We look forward to seeing you soon and continuing to support your well-being!

We’re excited to share a new tool that can help ease that burden: the Park Smarter app. This handy app makes managing your parking payments a breeze, so you can focus on what matters—your health and wellness. A reminder: Parking is free after 4:00 pm during the weekdays and all day on the weekends, and when the meters say free parking. When parking is free there are blue bags or ribbons on the meters. Sometimes these are missing but a message will flash on the meter screen saying free parking.

Anatomy Corner

The Shoulder Joints

The shoulder is comprised of 4 joints:

Glenohumeral joint
The main shoulder joint, where the head upper arm bone meets shoulder blade. This ball-and-socket joint is the most mobile joint in the body, but it's also the most likely to dislocate.

Acromioclavicular (AC) joint
The joint where the collarbone meets the acromion of the scapula ( the notch at the end of the shoulder). This joint stabilizes the shoulder and helps with arm movements like lifting.

Sternoclavicular (SC) joint
The joint where the collarbone meets the sternum (breastbone). This saddle-shaped joint is the only direct connection between the upper limb and the axial skeleton.

Scapulothoracic joint
A gliding joint that supports the shoulder's overall function, though it's not technically an anatomical joint. When I say your scapula is adhered to your ribcage, this is the joint that is not functioning properly.

Scapular Motion Exercise

1. Place hands on shoulders

2. Rotate shoulders one way and then the other 5-10 times, repeat as needed for a quick release of should tension.

As we embrace the holiday season, we want to take a moment to express our heartfelt gratitude for your continued support at Menomonie Therapeutic Massage. This time of year is perfect for reflection and rejuvenation, and we encourage you to prioritize your well-being amidst the hustle and bustle. We truly care about your health and happiness, and we look forward to accompanying you on your wellness journey. Happy holidays and healing to you and your loved ones!
