A MESSAGE FROM TAWNY

A message to my clients,

I would like to inform all of you that I have chosen a new career path. An opportunity has come up for me to provide child care in my home. This will not only allow me a more flexible schedule for my family, it will give me a chance to watch my son as he grows up. I will sincerely miss all of my clients and hope we can stay in touch with each other.
I recommend that you continue to come to Jill’s My Style Studio (as will I!) for all your beauty needs. Jill and Lacy both do a wonderful job and will be able to help you with anything you need. Also be watching for a new massage therapist to be starting at Jill’s My Style Studio. My last day at the salon will be October 15th.
Thank you for all your loyalty and friendship over the years. This was not an easy decision to make, but I do feel it was the best decision for me. I would also like to thank Jill for being a mentor to me over the years. We have worked together at a few different salons and she has taught me a lot. As an employer she was always willing to be flexible and encouraged me to be my very best! Having her support as I make this decision means a lot to me. Lacy has also been an absolute joy to work with, she is so talented and such a kind hearted person. I wish them both the best in the future. I will truly miss my work friends.

Is massage always appropriate?

No, there are some medical conditions that would make massage inappropriate. That is why it is necessary to fill out a health form before you begin your session. The massage therapist will ask questions to rule out if you have any contraindications to massage. It is important that you inform the practitioner of any health problems or medications you are taking. If you are under a doctor's care, it is strongly advised that you receive a written recommendation for massage prior to any session. Your massage therapist may require a recommendation or approval from your doctor.

Is there a possibility that the lotion or oil used during a massage will make me break out?

Most massage therapists use hypoallergenic massage oils or lotions. However, if you have sensitivity to certain types of oils or lotion please let your massage therapist know, most practitioners have many options of lotions and oils that they can use. There should be a space on your health intake form to write any allergies or sensitivities you may have so your therapist can remember at each session!

How will massage therapy feel?

That depends upon the technique used. Many therapists use some sort of Swedish massage techniques during most massages. Swedish massage is gentle and calming. It helps relax the body and warms up your muscles for a more deep massage, such as deep tissue. Deep tissue massage is used on specific areas to relieve tension and pain. With most massage techniques a lotion or oil is used to prevent excessive friction to the skin. If you receive a hot stone massage warmed stones will be placed on your body and used during your massage. A sports massage will involve many of the same techniques as Swedish and deep tissue but also will involve some assisted stretching.

What should I do during my massage therapy session?

Just make yourself comfortable. Anytime your therapist wants you to adjust your body, she or he will either move you or will ask you to move what is needed. Of course you may change your position anytime to make yourself more comfortable. Some people close their eyes and relax during a session, others prefer to talk. It is your massage, and whatever feels right to you is the best way to relax. Please feel free to ask questions at any time.

Where do massage therapy sessions take place?

Your massage therapy session will take place in a warm, comfortable, quiet room. Soft music may be played to help you relax (if you prefer no music please tell your massage therapist!) You will lie on a massage table and a bolster will be used to help make you as comfortable as possible.

What to expect at your massage therapy session:

Your massage therapist will ask you to fill out an intake form. Next the therapist will ask you questions to determine which areas you would like worked on, if there are any areas to avoid, and if massage is appropriate for you. Your therapist will then instruct you how to lie on the table and go over the routine they will be using for your massage. Your therapist will leave the room so you can get ready for the massage, when you are ready they will return and your massage will begin.
